JCB (1534), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 27, 2009 2009 vintage. Nice thick pour, with a fast-disappearing carbonation. Prickly bubbles and decent retention, but - as the name would suggest - there’s some oil in this baby, even if you wouldn’t necessarily crack one open by the cement pond. Soft sweet oak notes in the nose, and the bourbon is pleasantly fragrant as opposed to sharp and overbearing. Slightly thin mouthfeel and a bit too much heat at the outset, but there’s a solid and flavorful base beer that’s rich and malty. Slight anise and bitter notes play around with the barrel. Overall, pretty good. smith4498 (709), Miami, Florida, USA Jun 12, 2009 Bottle shared by hopscotch. Pours black with brown head. Burnt malt and boubon aromas. Roasted malt, coffee, bourbon, vanilla and oak flavors. The bourbon really dominates this beer. Full body with soft carbonation. Well done. swoopjones (1484), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 11, 2009 22oz Bomber on Pizza Plants Miss Buffalo Cruise. Courtesy of Metzger. Pours deep dark black. Bourbon dominated aroma. Big bourbon. Taste was bourbon dominated & hard to decipher anything else. Roasty malts & bourbon. Mouthfeel was a tad light. Otherwise a total treat livelaughlovep (90), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Jun 6, 2009 For this one you gotta like bourbon. Almost tastes like pure bourbon, actually. Sweet, toasted malt, molasses and caramel. beerbill (1742), Laurel, New York, USA Jun 5, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours an opaque black that allows no light to pass through. Very pleasant aroma of bourbon, vanilla, and caramel. The bourbon in the aroma is the flavor itself and not the vaporous alcohol. The flavor is ever-so-slightly metallic with bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and dark fruit. Thin bodied for an imperial stout. LilBeerDoctor (1291), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 4, 2009 Bottle at PPRBSG09. Pours dark brown. Aroma is completely bourbon. Flavor is also bourbony with a faint background of roasted malt. Am I drinking bourbon or beer? Tastes exactly the same as the bourbon aged imperial porter...like bourbon.
4/3/5/2/10 (2.4/5) fredandboboflo (1168), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 1, 2009 Bottle. Aroma quite boozy with some alcohol-soaked fruits. Flavor gets much richer than the nose indicated with the chocolate and roasted malt notes one would expect from such a beer. Tasty. j12601 (630), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA May 31, 2009 Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Gathering. Pours a nice black with a light tan head. Isopropyl mostly on the nose, with some roast, and a light bourbon note, but mostly rubbing alcohol. Medium bodied and roasty, with more roast coming through on a light bitter finish. I was expecting more.
