Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 11, 2006 Updated: Jun 15, 2008A black beer with a brown shine underneath a brown head. The aroma is like a well made cappuchino - coffee and chocolate, but also with more beery notes of malt. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of coffee, but also light notes of bourbon, leading to an end, that is dry and roasted with notes of coffee and wood that lingers for a long time. The alcohol burns lightly in the throat. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 11, 2006 Updated: May 4, 2007May 2007. 2006 Edition. Black body, wiht a small creamy brown head. (3+) Massive boozy vanilla aroma, booze becomes unwieldy on alternating waves. Lovely vanilla flavours up front are sweet and sumptuous, sweet malt in the middle, and an overwhelming alcoholic finish. With less boozy wood it might be glorious. Smooth medium palate. 7/3+/7/3+/14 - 3.6
<P>October 2006. Bottle courtesy of either LarryPitonka or Secret Santa. Black body with a good sized fluffy dark tan head. Vanilla up front, woody alcohol follow up. Bracing alcohol, woody burn, vanilla, hints at sweet coconut. Burn mellows a bit as the glass goes on. Bitterness lasts long into the finish. Medium to full bodied palate (3+). A very nice stout but the influence of the barrel is just a touch too strong for my liking. 8/4/7/4/16 - 3.9 TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA Oct 11, 2006 Updated: Oct 28, 2006Pours black with thin offwhite head. Aroma is oak, bourbon, sweet roasty malt, vanilla, and chocolate. Flavor is much the same. Incredible. Nice smooth, creamy feel. Finishes bitter and sweet with HUGE bourbon flavor. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 10, 2006 Bottle. Black colour with a medium brown head. Fruity, wood, vanilla, whisky aroma and taste. Full body with a long wood, vanilla finish. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Oct 8, 2006 Aroma was strong, very buttery, with a surprisingly backseat bourbon. The oak really took the front seat here, though too much so. More subdued in the flavor, the oak was overcome by the bourbon (much like in most bourbon beers), which in typical fashion blocked most of nuances of the beer in the name of brute force. Went down pretty easy for 10.5%. madsberg (4873), Søborg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Light brown head. Fruits, liqourice, cocoa, alcohol and spices in the aroma. Flavour is light "old". Ripe fruits and dust. Alcohol, cocoa and chocolate. Light roast. Medium bodied. Is a bit unbalanced. Ends on a ligt roasted note. joergen (8429), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottle.
Black coloured with a beige head.
Roasted aroma of bourbon and wood.
Roasted flavour of wood and vanilla. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 6, 2006 Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, mds and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle. Okay, this is good stuff, yeah, but I am SICK of rating beer and smelling/tasting bourbon - ENOUGH ALREADY! Poured opaque ruby-black with an average creamy tan head. Aroma of bourbon, wood, vanilla, dark roast malt and booze - really sweet. Taste is sweet, also vanilla, oak, bourbon, alcohol - elements of chocolate, spice and dark fruit, really soft and complex. Thick, creamy body, astringent, only light carbonation, has a nice roasty spicy finish, once all the bourbon burns off - very nice, very vanilla ... I’d like to try the regular version of this one. I’m knocking off 2 points from the final score ’cause I’m pretty sure it was the bourbon that make me barf about an hour later.
