DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2006 Wow, what a huge offering from acertain. This one is ebony, with no apparent light transmittance, and a 1-finger tan head. Definite 5 for appearance. The aroma is marvelous and hefty, oaky, bourbony, with big roasty malt and chocoff, reminding me of Great Divide BA Yeti plus some Heresy and Founders Kentucky Breakfast aromas. The flavor is on the dry side, with a pronounced oak and bourbon flavor, plus cognac, some vanilla, and subdued chocolate. The entire beer retains a rather hard liquory taste and palate, but retains a solid complexity, like a fine scotch. Does get hot, but as many have stated before, you’ll be used to it by the time you get to the end of the beer. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Oct 3, 2006 My absolute favorite beer at GABF this year, the perfect balance of Imperial Stout with Bourbon, not too sweet, not too bourbony. By far the best balanced Bourbon-barrel aged offering at the show. I was validated when it took 2nd place. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Sep 21, 2006 bottle. compliment of glkaiser. thanks buddy. black pour with thin tiny bubbled head. big time bourbon aroma. I love bourbon. great great aroma. liquorice, maybe some raison, a little bit of coffee and chocolate but dominant bourbon aroma. wow. huge malts, great vanilla, rich chocolate with the bourbon warmth. chocolate finish with the bourbon sticking to your lips. this is the ultimate in by book. all the flavors are full and rich. no cheap tastes in this beer. Im in love! This is my first twenty! argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Sep 11, 2006 (22oz bottle, thanks Bück Dich) Creamy, pillowy medium beige head atop charcoal black body. Aroma is medium sweet, vanilla/bourbon, some chocolate, roast. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, vanilla, some bourbon, roast/coffee. Creamy medium-full body. Alcohol becomes a bit more pronounced as it nears room temperature. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA Sep 8, 2006 So great!!!!!!! Frothy head with strong nose, dark color. Somewhat thinner than expected. I could have drank this all night. Smooth bourbon roasteyness on the tongue lingering inthe finish. P-tor44 (886), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Sep 7, 2006 not a overpowering aroma, but mmmmm, its been a while with one of these. 2006 bottle I only bought because it was the last one in the store, maybe a bad idea but I couldn’t let it slip by, wow, first rating in a while, ok, here I go aroma of roast, light chocolate, cake, lots of whiskey on the nose along with the extremly woody charecter, overall dry on the nostrils, not huge. initiall hints of whiskey...on top of loads fo coco...wow, lots of vanilla...roasty. Lightly vinous, lingering chocolate after a whiskey curtain jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Sep 6, 2006 Creamy brown head with lots of bourbon in the nose. Cola colored. The beer coats the chalice with oily liquid when swirled. Oily mouthfeel. Lots of bourbon, wood, vanilla and roast malt flavors. with some dark fruit, plum and raisen notes. Very nice big beer, but not as nice a marriage of the stout and the barrel that the top BAs get. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Aug 28, 2006 Bottle from Andrew (acertain) Thanks! 2006 bottle. First I will start with, I am not a fan of bourbon, I never have been (since college), and since that one night where I can no longer smell it due to too much ingestion, I have lost my appetite for it. This beer, on the other hand, is fucking out of control. There isnt so much of a bourbon flavor as there is huge notes of vanillia, and oak, and chocolate. Very dark colored pour, with a thick tan head. Taste is sweet, rich, roasted coffee and chocolate, not very much of a hop presence. This is what a bourbon stout should taste like - not like drinking a bottle of jim beam, but more enjoying the finer qualities that jim beam has - vanilla, oak, etc. A great imperial stout, and hands down the best BBA stout I have ever had. I am not even crazy about BB stouts which is why I dont go ape shit like everyone else about the barrel aged releases, but this one that I could quite possibly go crazy for. Glad I have a few more bottles of this one to sit on and savor for the upcoming winter months. Fucking great beer.
