Aroma is bright coffee and roasted grains with wood and sweet bourbon and vanilla. Some sweetness from brown sugar. Taste is smooth and sweet, nice rich body and enjoyable amount of alcohol and vanilla and bourbon. 1 year old bottle I think. talon1117 (620), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2009 2009 bottle. Pour is black with an average, dark tan, pillowy head which settles in time to a small layer and leaves sporadic lace. Nose is still young but nice with bourbon right from the start, burnt oak, some vanilla, burnt toast, light notes of moderate to heavily roasted coffee, faint molasses, some chocolate nougat, and faint dark fruit. Flavor is again young with a good amount of bourbon warmth; other notes are hard to pick out but are there with black currant, burnt toast, dark chocolate, light vanilla, chocolate nougat, cookie, and light coffee roast. Palate is nice but will be great with time; notable warmth, nearly lively, medium to full, somewhat round and chewy. Finishes still warm with bourbon on the back of the throat, average length with cookie, vanilla, burnt toast, and light coffee. I can see this one being good with another year under its belt; the flavors are starting to meld but still overpowered by the warm bourbon. Complexity is nice and palate is already round and chewy. Will have to try again. Snojerk321 (1943), San Diego, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 18, 2009 22oz bottle from homebrewcolin. Pours a deep brown almost black with a thin beige/ chocolate head. Great nose of vanilla, bourbon, oak and some roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and dark fruits. Flavor was nowhere near as good as the nose led it to be, very boozy, not bad, just not as good as I thought it would be. yemenmocha (354), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 17, 2009 Pours opaque, near black, with virtually no head. Nose has soft aromas of cocoa & nougat, milkshake malt aroma too. Palate offers a sizeable dose of bourbon flavors upon entry but then climbs into big, roasty rich flavors, including a dark chocolate component. Finish is very chocolatey. Easy to drink for the heaviness of the beer, and alcohol is masked well.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 9, 2009 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size brown foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of bourbon and sweet creamy barley without too much alcohol ester. Taste is a complex mix between some sweet roasted malt with creamy barley notes and some dominating bourbon with light vanilla touch. Bourbon is very present but without any alcohol ester. Which I very much appreciated. Full body with good carbonation. Very well done and something I would have more often.

There was a slight alcohol burn, otherwise this invokes a state of beer zen. Tasted the tobacco, cocoa, vanilla, and toffee. Excellent! SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA

very nice aroma, from fresh tar, maduro tobacco, light high quality bourbon, light vanilla...all the fun dark stuff!!
coats the mouth wonderfully, the abv is worked in beautifully.. Also amazingly easy to drink, the aging has added almost the perfect amount of bourbon flavour.. .
