jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Mar 8, 2009 Bottle split with jimbowood. Pours jet black with thick motor oil thickness. Aroma of bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Taste is nice mixture of bourbon, vanilla, coconut, and chocolate. Thick mouthfeel. Definitely a sipper. Very smooth. This brew is outstanding. douglas88 (1557), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Mar 4, 2009 Bomber from the Utah State Store. Pours a completely black color with a small beige head. The aroma is initially oak, lots of bourbon and then a nice vanilla note, lots of bourbon though. The flavor is hot and nasty, not nasty bad, I mean nasty in terms of fierce and bad ass; lots of hot bourbon throughout, roasted malts and burnt oak. A sweet vanilla and chocolate mix also. This tastes like someone left a bit of beer to ferment in a whiskey bottle floating in a oil can in your granddad’s garage in the summer. Very nice. Another good beer from Full Sail. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 4, 2009 Updated: Apr 3, 2009On tap at Uber. Pours black with a thin beige head. Huge nose of chocolate, toffee, whiskey, and oak. Initial whiskey taste fades to a roasty oatmeal maltiness. Some oak, especially in the finish. Mouthfeel is thick and amazing.
So I loved this.
Later I had a bottle and it wasn’t nearly as impressive- huge alcohol and bitterness overwhelmed everything else. I’ll think about this. I have a couple more bottles hanging around. daknole (2810), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 3, 2009 Bottle from homebrewcolin. Black pour wtih a thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon and then some more bourbon, followed by more bourbon!! I also get hints of christmas pudding and spices. Flavor is full of bourbon, chocolate, dates, figs, molasses and some liquor soaked raisins. I love these types of beers and this one is awesome. I would like more please!! GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Mar 2, 2009 Pours dark enough but with a weak head. All I get is a small pancake. Strong whiskey on the nose with some dark malts. Medium to full nectar weight with lean residual effers. This has a strong dialect in it’s pronunciation when describing the Bourbon essence. Obvious Bourbon mingles with the brew beautifully. You really have to like the spirit on this one. I feel it does well in it’s expose and surely deserves a slot among the elite for this genre. The finish is lengthy. Classic. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 1, 2009 22oz Bottle... Poured black with a thin, light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and bourbon. Lots of noticeable alcohol in this one creating a nice warming brew to quaff on a cold rainy afternoon. Lots of chocolate and whiskey-like notes. Not much of a hop bitterness, but the malted grains were pretty dominant. Smoke vanilla flavors too. This one got better with every sip. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Feb 23, 2009 Black with a modest tan head that becomes a long lasting ring. The lacings are few and come and go rather quickly. The aroma is woody, boozy, some cocoa, and vanilla notes. Taste is a dark chocolate then a bit of vanilla bourbon on the sides of the tongue. Further sips find molasses, black cherries, oak tannins, and a hint of charcoal. Mouthfeel was fine and the carbonation was just enough. Drinkability was bordering on exceptional and very enjoyable. I have another bottle that will be tasted next year. carruthm (1112), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 23, 2009 dark black pour with little head. sweet notes in the nose. bourbon elements noticeable, chocolate and coffee.
