COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Malt beverage aged in oak bourbon barrels.
A hearty brew that is black as night with a strong roasted malt character and a full body. After its initial release in January 2010, our Imperial Stout was aged for a full year in Bourbon casks from Kentucky. This extended aging presents hints vanilla and oak. This, combined with the robust character of the Imperial Stout make for a smooth, wonderful taste experience. A hearty cellar beer. Very Limited Availability - 22oz Bottles and Draught. Black Gold was named one of "the best" barrel aged beers in the US by Men’s Journal and took home a silver medal at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival® in the Wood and Barrel Aged Strong beer category).

Note: In 2011 went from 10.5% to 11.4%.
2013 - 9.6% ABV.

2012 version. So this is no longer called Black Gold, now rates at 9.6%, and doesn’t come with the foil wrapper... I guess it’s the same beer though. Anyway, pours super thick inky black with thin mocha head that fades quickly. Aroma is heavy bourbon and chocolate, with a hint of espresso. Taste is rich, dark chocolate and deeply roasted malt. Bourbon and barrel notes are significant but not at all overwhelming. Finishes smooth, and abv is not overbearing. Love the fact that they don’t blend this with any of the non-barrel aged version of the beer. The richness of this is proof of how well that works.

Bomber. Jet black pour with a dense beige head. Crazy good aroma of bourbon and wood. Palate is smooth but not as dense as one might think for the style or based on appearance. Delicious beer, and great value at 12 bucks a bomber!!

Bottle shared by MrBarleywine, thanks for the opportunity! solid black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of roasted grains, coffee and hints of chocolate with a mild earthiness to counter. The flavor is a sweet malty roasted affair with bits of coffee and chocolate and just a touch of earth and light fruitiness. Medium to thin body with a moderate level of carbonation. Decent enough beer, but couldn’t hold up to some of the other brews that we had Saturday night!

651 ml. bottle. Vintage 2013. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, well retained beige head, with slight lacing, over a blackish brown (SRM 35) body.....nose is chocolate, light cocoa, plum, raisin, treacle from the malts, whiskey, wood from the barrel, light herbal notes from the hops......taste is medium sweet with chocolate, cocoa, mild dried fruits including plum, whiskey, light vanilla, hints of tobacco, finishing with moderate spicy hop bitterness.....mouth feel, medium heavy body, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation makes a creamy mouthful with light acid. This is a rich, sweet, malt dominated, complex beer. It is quite soft in many notes, with the barrel deftly handled so that it adds complexity without being too dominant. BJCP 9/3/15/4/7

Amazing beer! Walks the line between liquor and beer. When I popped open the bottle the fragrance of booze is intense. Like someone poured a bottle of mash whiskey into it. The hue is a dark coffee. Light head. The booze is intense. It is full bodied with a bitter wash down. It seems to be the trend for brewers to barrel age their beers. Overall an all around solid beer.

Bottle. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, burnt, chocolate and booze. This beer has a nice body with rich sweet with a little bitter bite from the alcohol. Nice beer, and the bourbon aging is a nice balanced addition.

Great beer had it on Saturday with my buddy after a day of shooting. Bought it at Albertsons and if you like the flavor of bourbon this beer is for you. It has a very dark pour and at first taste it seems bitter but after that it is incredible.

22 oz. bomber share thanks to Evan. 2011 vintage. Appearance: black color, slight dark brown film of head, no lacing. Aroma: bourbon, oak, molasses, coffee, light chocolate and roast. Palate: oily texture, full body, soft to flat carbonation, warming alcohol feeling, super smooth. Taste: very sweet molasses and huge bourbon tastes. Overall, very smooth, but I feel the bourbon came out too much for me due to the aging. If you love bourbon beers, here you go, I typically do, but this was a little much.
