Bomber. Pours opaque black with a thin tan head. Sweet coffee oak and bourbon nose. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Sweet chocolate, coffee and oaky vanilla taste.

Black with good head. I love stouts and this was a good stout so I loved it. Would like to have one again if it was given to me free like this one was.

RIch and dark burnt malt backbone. Deep chocolate with strong wooded highlights. Some deep roasted coffee beans, somewhat vanilla and mossy. Grassy hops with slight citrus presence. Really well done.

Tap @ Parkway. Deep red-black pour with a short tan head leaving heavy lace. Nose is chocolate, licorice and booze. Heavy body and medium carbonation, with an oily mouth feel - particularly near the finish. Baking chocolate, cherry, licorice, vanilla and caramel. Finish is sweet and chocolatey with a touch of coffee late. A bit sweet for me, but really smooth and lovely - one of the better barrel-aged Imperial Stouts.

Sampled at Portland City Grill, bomber. Pours a dark reddish brown, no head at all. Aroma was light coffee, but need to reevaluate outside of a bar. Taste is dominated by a strong chocolate, cocoa and roasted malt combination. Also some coffee in there. Finish brings bitterness and more roasted malt. Palate was thick, viscous and quite oily. Very good beer, I need to get another chance at it.

Draught @ Pilsner Room. I really enjoyed this beer. I was served a full 16oz of this stuff in a pint glass, and it was way too cold. I warmed it in my hands from about 10 mins. Much more approachable than some of the big Impy Stouts. Very black, thin tan frosting. Aroma was bitter chocolate, mild roasty, and a lingering hoppiness. Thinner than most Impys but still very satisfying with a little kick at the end. Nicely rounded beer.

(draft) Creamy tan head atop a body that is black with red highlights. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, coffee, some roasty. Taste is rich, moderately sweet, chocolate, roasty, light cherry, with a bit of alcohol burn in the swallow. Full creamy body.

Bottle, 2005. Dark brown, black, with a light brown head. Aromas are roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, and caramel. Flavors are roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, and coffee. Body is a bit thin. More body and a little less bitterness, and this would be amazing.

2004 bottle drank in 2005. Definitely has been one of FS’s stronger points. Pours straight black with tiny tanned hints and a dark tan head. Mediumly thick aromas of sweet burnt malts, coffee, and roast. Notes of much of the same in the flavors, with hints of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. A standard in Impy Stouts, not mind blowing, but damn good, especially when it was first being brewed.

Today me and my friend did a side by side of this an BCS. Pours pitch black with hints of brownish reddish edges. Has a pretty active caramel colored head that rises to the top of my Duvel glass. Has a good bourbon oak scent, not as intese as the BCS but good nonetheless. There are also hints of molasses and vanilla. The mouthfeel isn’t as thick as others but the flavors are the standard, nice oak and bourbon flavors mix with layers of malt and chocolate bitterness. I have a cut on my lip and it is burning from this alcohol, though the alcohol doesn’t make a huge presence in the flavor. This is a great ass barrel aged stout, may not be the pinnacle of the style but it is worthy if you can get ahold of it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-14-2009 03:45:59
