3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nuffield (3348) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - MAR 16, 2004
Fairly simple (dare I say bland?) stout. Good dark purple color with a white head. Moderate roasted aroma, but the body is thin amid the typical complement of stout flavor hints. (on tap, Full Sail Pilsner Room, Portland)
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Aubrey (3339) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - FEB 25, 2004
"Black Gold Stout" on tap at the brewery: Very dark and black. Soft, "liquidy" light-tan head. Wonderful milkshake-like texture really caught me off guard. Big notes of chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Roasty and slightly burnt, with a small hint of smoke. Milky-sweet.

Nitro @ Brewery - Nicely balanced, just what I like in a stout. Creamy and rich dark chocolate with some roasted coffee notes. Bittersweet and dry in the finish. Enjoyable.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Murphy (1759) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 26, 2004
Exploding coffee flavors in the palate. Also some nice burnt flavor. Smokey. Needs to make its mind up about being a dry stout or not. Big creamy head, but a weak body. I liked it.

Nice and dark with a big tan head. Aroma was chocolate with some roasted hazelnuts. Smooth and flavourful throughout before a semi-dry finish.
