COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first beer in the Brewer’s Share Series is "Extra Special Barney" (ESB) and was developed by our lead brewer, Barney Brennan. According to Barney, his ESB was inspired by two things; a perfect beer moment and the aromatic highlight of the 2007 hop selection in Yakima, a US Challenger hop. As Barney puts it, "I was sitting on the deck at the brewery overlooking the river in the sunshine - drinking a perfectly balanced bitter - already looking forward to the second pint. It was one of those great beer moments. Hopefully, my ESB will make one of those moments for someone else with its five different specialty malts and this one very special hop. We made it entirely with US Challenger hops including a pound per barrel dry hop because we wanted to share the aromatic experience we had at the Hop Rub in Yakima with our customers."

Pours deep hazy amber into a Sam glass. Pancake head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Toasted caramel and resin aromas. Dark, toasted caramel and toffee front to back. Lasting mild pine finish.

Poured a hazy slightly dark orange color with a medium-sized white head. Not much in the aroma, some hay and hops. Taste is pretty crisp with some slightly alcohol tasting notes. Some caramel with other malty flavors. Some light fruity notes. Aftertaste has some grainy flavors with some crisp dry hops with some hay. Overall pretty good!

The aroma is malty and a touch nutty with herbal hops and a tiny bit of fruit. The appearance is amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a bit of butterscotch. The palate is smooth. Overall a very good beer.

Sampled in a bomber. A really malty brew with a serious kick. Really smooth as well and a great sipping brew.

Brownish orange, good head. Some citrus mixed with bitterness and malt coming through towards the end with more citrus or orange in the finish. A fine brew.

Strong aroma is malty with fruity, earthy and woody notes. It pours a clear coppery with a pale yellow-tan head of about average thickness and persistence. Flavor has a woody core with a fairly, but not fiercely, bitter overtone and hints of caramel,

Pours a hazy orange copper color with a slight off white head that rings out and settles for a bit. On the nose I get real subtle notes of bready malts, caramel and light apricot. On the palate its quite solid but not as bitter as I expected from an ESB. Malts galore caramel, biscuit, hints of earth spice. Watermelon rind, touches of fig and other fruity flavors. Nice beer just expected a bit more on the bitterness end.
