COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first beer in the Brewer’s Share Series is "Extra Special Barney" (ESB) and was developed by our lead brewer, Barney Brennan. According to Barney, his ESB was inspired by two things; a perfect beer moment and the aromatic highlight of the 2007 hop selection in Yakima, a US Challenger hop. As Barney puts it, "I was sitting on the deck at the brewery overlooking the river in the sunshine - drinking a perfectly balanced bitter - already looking forward to the second pint. It was one of those great beer moments. Hopefully, my ESB will make one of those moments for someone else with its five different specialty malts and this one very special hop. We made it entirely with US Challenger hops including a pound per barrel dry hop because we wanted to share the aromatic experience we had at the Hop Rub in Yakima with our customers."

Bomber. Pours pale amber with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is lots of earthy, lightly citrus English-style hops, some caramel, toffee, honey, light fruit flavors. Medium mouthfeel. Love me some English bitter, and this is a really good version of one.

Bottle: Dull orange color with a thin white head. Mild nose of caramel malts and lighty floral. Soft, malty taste with mostly caramel and bready bits. Very faint florals; no real bitters in this ESB.

Bottle:   Darker amber, slight haze, moderate frothy off-white head, sticky lacing.   Soft biscuit nose, slight resin or citrus peel as well.   Malty start, biscuity but not heavy, with a soft ctirus peel background.   Very smooth and well balanced.   Has soft hop aspect that lends itself well to the semi-sweet maltiness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Overall a well balanced, smooth, and easy drinking ESB.   Fairly crisp too!

This has a really fruity aroma with cherries, watermelon and cotton candy. Hazy orange/amber with a low volume but persistent off-white head. Some of this fruity sweetness follows on the initial taste, but is tamed somewhat with soft, bready malt and a surprising spicy/earthy bitterness. Finishes with a light and lasting bitterness and a nice biscuity aftertaste. This is a well balanced beer that gets better as you drink it and it warms up.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a cloudy amber-orange color with an average-sized, foamy white head with short retention, very little cling, and modest lacing. The aroma featured rich malt tones with caramel and touches of sugar and candy, along with some hops featuring citrus, pine, and floral touches. The taste had a subtle sweet maltyness along with a slight sour floral effect and some modest grainy bitterness. The beer had an average thickness with a crisp, dry, lighter mouthfeel, and had average carbonation and fizz.

Shared by turdferguson. Pours a soft coppery amber with two fingers of sandy off white head. Nose is bready with an upfront English hop quality, herbal and earthy with some wet tea leaf, spice, and caramel malt. Herbal and bready flavor, I wish I had more of a vocabulary for English style beers. I get a mild/appropriate showing of diacetyl, a hop character that I would describe as herbal, bready notes, and then more diacteyl/butter. Just not my style, I recognize this as being well done though.

Bottle from Sam’s. Hazy orange with a small white head. Nose is heavily malted, bread, grain, caramel. Flavor is pretty similar, very sweet for a beer with bitter in the name. This beer sucks. But ill probably finish it because i am poor.
