COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first beer in the Brewer’s Share Series is "Extra Special Barney" (ESB) and was developed by our lead brewer, Barney Brennan. According to Barney, his ESB was inspired by two things; a perfect beer moment and the aromatic highlight of the 2007 hop selection in Yakima, a US Challenger hop. As Barney puts it, "I was sitting on the deck at the brewery overlooking the river in the sunshine - drinking a perfectly balanced bitter - already looking forward to the second pint. It was one of those great beer moments. Hopefully, my ESB will make one of those moments for someone else with its five different specialty malts and this one very special hop. We made it entirely with US Challenger hops including a pound per barrel dry hop because we wanted to share the aromatic experience we had at the Hop Rub in Yakima with our customers."

Poured a hazy slightly dark orange color with a medium-sized white head. Not much in the aroma, some hay and hops. Taste is pretty crisp with some slightly alcohol tasting notes. Some caramel with other malty flavors. Some light fruity notes. Aftertaste has some grainy flavors with some crisp dry hops with some hay. Overall pretty good!

From the bottle, pours a hazy copper with an off white head. Smells sweet and malty. Same flavors as we’re expected by the aroma. This is a solid beer.

Sample from firkin at the 6th Annual Rogue Firkin Fest at Green Dragon, dry hopped with Challenger. Pours a cloudy orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, tropical fruit and hops. Medium body with flavors of fruity hops and caramel malt, along with a bit of pine. The finish is fruity with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a clear deep amber color with a bubbly ring. Small head develops with agitation, but is quickly gone. The aroma is toasted malts, caramel, mild fruits, pithy with a small floral character. The flavor is more toasted bready malts, pithy, some fruits, dry, herbal bitterness to the finish.

Appearance: Pours a dark clear copper with a tan head that subsides to a lasting creamy layer of froth. Leaves behind a bit lof lace as well.

Aroma: Sweet toffee like malt, fruity yeast and a fresh herbal hop aroma.

Taste: A mixture of fruity yeast, tuned down Full Sail bitey house character, toffee like malt, red apple skin tannins. Finishes with a little bit of bitterness balances out the fruity profile of the beer. Alcohol well hidden for this 6.5%, fairly clear ale.

Mouthfeel: On the thin/sessionable side of medium, moderate carbonation, ever so juicy.

Overall: One of the better ales I’ve had from Full Sail in a few years. The Full Sail house ale yeast isn’t the first and last thing I taste in this, and that is a positive thing for me. Very sessionable for 6.5% as well.

22oz. bomber. Pours copper with small short lived cream colored head. Aroma is doughy with herbal hops. Medium mouthfeel. Crisp with balanced hop taste. For me, not too interesting but not a bad brew.

Reading the description suggest to me that this brewer, Barney, is way to obsessed with his beer ("It was one of those great beer moments"). This also tells me that this beer will probably be excellent (it is).

Light copper pour with a nice ivory head that left a bit of lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, floral hops, and toffee. Flavor similar with a subtle toast and maybe a hint of vanilla. Not a bad beer but not terribly complex.
