COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
LIMITED EDITION ALE - AVAILABLE FOR 90 DAYS ONLY APRIL TO JUNE

A medium bodied ale with caramel complexity and a crisp finish.

The telltale signs of Spring arrive in the Gorge as mountain bikers begin to replace snowboarders and the snow melt feeds the rivers as white water rafters and kayakers anticipate the first runs of the year. Flowers cover the mountain meadows and blooms fill the orchards in the valley. Our pub staff knows that our ESB will be just the right beer to welcome Spring in the Gorge. ESB is a traditional ale brewed with attention to balance, highlighting both malt and hops. A combination of crystal malts give this beer its orange hue, and caramel complexities. UK and US Challenger hops were used exclusively throughout. Aromas of dry caramel and herbs are followed by a malty, medium bodied palate finishing with caramel flavors and a crisp bitterness. ABV 6.5% IBU 35

Bottle @ home picked up @ Wilbur’s Fort Collins. I seem to remember having this at the brewery five years back, but I could be mistaken. Pours a clear dark copper appearance with a light brown head. Nutty, herbal, caramel, toasted malty, a bit earthy, clean aroma. Mildly sweet, somewhat spicy, nutty, tangy herbal, grassy, toasted malty flavor. A touch metallic. Not bad but not my favorite ESB.

A bomber of the 2006 brewer’s reserve. Very good and well malted ESB. Its for sipping and sharing. Golden amber colour. Smooth.Hoppy and piney aroma. This is a mix of hops, and while citrus, there is some British hop in here. Refreshing.Drying finish

3fourths (8238) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 24, 2013
Bottle. Clear copper with a thin white head. Buttered sugar cookie, vanilla and nut butter amber malt. Light sulfur and medium aromatic mustiness (dried dank, green herbs, spice). Melanoidin / honey malt savoriness, sherry amber / vienna malt flavor. Lightly sweet, balanced bitterness. Medium to light body with somewhat hard edges to the malt, but it’s much cleaner than most of their stuff. They are known to make an occasional good batch (some of the LTD stuff is pretty solid), and this may be one of them.

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of somewhat stale-ish malt, caramel, a bit of toastiness, light fruitiness and some earthy hops. Flavor starts with some sweetish maltiness, caramelly, a bit toasty, with a nutty note, and a moderately bitter hoppy finish, earthy and a bit minerally. Medium-bodied.

Bottle:   Amber, faint copper hue, moderate sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Slight biscuity nose, touch of fruitiness.   Very fruity up front, a little mealy and biscuity.   Not as crisp as I would have hoped.   Backside shows a lot of mealiness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   A little ashy on the exit.   Lingering biscuit and mealy maltiness.   This one really needs to be a touch sweeter and brighter.   Can do without the mealiness too.   Tiz okay, but not the stuff I remember drinking when I was a wee lad.

1/17/14. Bottle at PorterPounder’s place, if I recall. I was surprised I hadn’t rated this. Or perhaps a crappy old rating of mine got deleted. Oh well - here goes. Amber pour with a small khaki head. Plain but unoffensive on all fronts. Biscuit, caramel, doughy malts, touches of chocolate and nuttiness if you search for it.

deep amber .. . medium head, lacing is quite good . .. a bit abrasive, some wood and sappy cut throat grain .. . mouth is in your face .. . not at all subtle, no thanks, this is not very esb like, a touch out of whack .. . . saving those babies and the soft spots on their head..
