COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the sun rises earlier and stays out longer, we celebrate the coming of spring and the sprouting of this year’s hop crop with a new beer in our Brewmaster Reserve line-up. Hop Pursuit is a crisp, orange blonde extra pale ale with a medium malt body that’s chased by a ton of hop flavor and zing of bitterness. We brewed it with the less aggressive, old school craft brewing hops– Cascade, Willamette, and Mt. Hood– to celebrate more of the hop flavor and less of the hop bitterness. These give the beer a nice and fresh citrus herbal character without a lot of intensity; instead it has a softly flavorful character with touches of orange and lemon. We dry hopped for two weeks to amplify these delicate hop flavors. Available in 22oz. bottles and draught. ABV 6% IBU 55

Bottle; golden orange with a skyscraper of a tight white-foamed head. Aroma is yeasty and citric. It drinks with a musty horse blanket essence, and with a dusting of herbal spice. Despite all that, the beer comes across as a bit shallow, light in body. The head won’t quit though. (#4157, 7/1/2011)

Bottle from SL. The pour was light orangey amberish with a nice white head and a good bit of chunkies at the bottom third of the pour. The aroma was biscuits, toffee, citrus, and herbal hops. The flavor followed, oranges not that detectable by me, resinous and herbal hops the keynote. The mouthfeel was moderate for a pale ale, overall flavor moderate to a bit light, but it is an EPA, so I think they hit this dead on. Nice refreshing summer brew, actually.

Poured into a snifter. Thanks to twiggamortis420 for this. 3.5 A: Lightly hazed light orange color. Two and a half fingers of pillowy off-white head with pretty good retention and a good bit of lacing. 3.0 S: The nose is subtle, but it is pleasant enough. Herbal foremost with a good bit of orange and underneath some pithy grapefruit. Malts and yeast combine for a soft breadiness. 2.0 T: Amazingly boring. I’m shocked that a 6% beer named Hop Pursuit could be so bland. The strongest flavor is yeast (I feel like I’m drinking a yeast starter actually). Miles below that there is a very soft bitterness, unaggressive herbalness, and a "stale beer" taste. 3.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Could be creamier. 1.5 D: I’m pissed that this came in a bomber. The second glass is ever worse that the first. It’s like drinking a cuvee of wounded soldiers from the night before. I really wish I drainpoured beer because right now that’s all I can think about. Don’t buy this unless it’s for someone you don’t like. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-13-2011 20:59:55

Good sized of-white head of fine bubbles. Lots of oranges and citrusy hops, some caramel and soft malts. Color is a hazy brownish orange. Loads of hops in the flavor but not as much citrus as the aroma. Very easy drinking. Decent malt backbone. Very zippy palate with some herbal bitterness. Finishes dry and bitter. An ok brew. Not very complex.

Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a one finger frothy white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Spots of soapy lace are left behind. Spicy, floral hop aroma with lots of dry, earthy pine and resinous oil as well as some sweet citrus/tropical notes. Hints of grapefruit, mango, pineapple and orange peel. Grainy biscuit malt backbone. Medium bodied with a blast of dry earthy hops. Resinous with a good amount of bitterness that doesn’t overpower. Floral with hnts of pine countered by sweet fruit notes, especially grapefruit and orange peel. Decent malt backbone balances things out with hints of caramel, toffee, biscuit and slight grainy graham cracker. Dry finish. Full bodied, well balanced, flavorful and easy to drink.

Tap @ PSP. Hazy orange-gold pour with a short white head leaving minimal lace. Fresh hop nose mixed with toasty malt. Medium body with medium-light carbonation. Toast, pine, fruits. Nicely balanced APA, hard to go wrong with Full Sail.

(Rating #3694)

Bottle @ home. Dark orange appearance with a vibrant, white head. Slightly spicy, bready, citrus hoppy nose. Pale, slightly caramel malty body with a dull citrus hoppy flavor. Hops are a little dull.

Bomber from State Line. Deep golden pour with orange tints and thin, crisp carbonation. Hints of pine in the nose, along with sweet apricot. Slightly prickly mouthfeel at first, then settles into a full and fluffy feel. Taste is a bit biscuity with a sweet foundation, balanced just enough by a lightly dry finish. Decent.

glennmastrange (2331) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JUN 13, 2011
Bottle. Moderate roasted for the malt, pine and herbs for the hops, light dough and soap for the yeast, with a hint of pepper. Head is small, wispy, slightly off-white with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky but clears up, amber/orange with medium sized light colored particles. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. An easy drinking and pretty tasty American Pale Ale.
