3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - APR 3, 2010
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling.
It pours a slightly lighter gold color than their pale ale. Definitely the same foamy white head which disappears quickly. The nose has grassy, floral hops, light malt, and honey notes. Wow, this is a super mild IPA. Bitter and dry with notes of grass, florals, and a touch of malt sweetness. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation and a medium to long, bitter finish. It’s a simple beer that is pretty meek in the IPA world. Take it or leave it.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheBeerGod (3960) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - MAR 29, 2010
Bottle. Listed at 6.0% ABV on the label. Amber pour with a short, dense, white head. Nose is pine, grapefruit juice and hop oils. Some earthiness to this as well. Taste is resinous hops, citrus oils, grapefruit juice, earth notes, and herbal notes. Body is medium with a softer, creamy carbonation. Ends with more herbal and earthy hops, hops oils, citrus, and softer pine. Light caramel as well.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Foxbush (704) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 27, 2010
This IPA was purchased at Total Wine with my brother in law. This was a new IPA for me. The color is a clear honey with a nice head and lacing. The hops taste is differnet than Cascade. The citrus flavor was missing. The bitterness is present and the finish is smoooth. The ale would be nice at any time of day and especially with food.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAR 25, 2010
12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a pale lightly hazy golden color with a thin white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of peppery, herbal hop notes with a bit of resin. The taste is citrus and herbal hops with caramel malts and candied fruits. Medium bodied. Decent.
2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 zizzybalubba (919) - Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA - MAR 23, 2010
12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake, VA. Pours yellowish-orange with very little head. The aroma is actually on the unpleasant side. It reminds me of a hair salon mixed with very Earthy notes. The taste is better, however, with floral hops, roses, and some sweetness to balance. Still, there is a taste that again tastes a little like dirt (I also noticed this in a recent bottle of Full Sail Amber). There are too many good IPAs out there; pass on this one.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 taphandle (985) - Texas, USA - MAR 18, 2010
Light amber with just a bit of head that faded quickly. Aroma is of hops, like an IPA should be. The taste follows with a touch of sweetness mixed with maltiness, then the hops flavor comes out. It doesn’t seem as bitter as many IPAs - maybe more of a Euro style IPA. Quite good, very drinkable.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 hershiser2 (1006) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAR 14, 2010
Bottle, $1.70 at Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours a very light clear amber. Looks watered down - almost no head. Light aroma of citrus and pine... a hint of metal as well. Tastes like a watered-down version of an IPA. Bitter, light pine and light grapefruit, Slightly cheap tasting.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 radagast83 (2201) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAR 13, 2010
Sampled from 12 oz bottle. Pours dark yellow, white head. Aroma is a nice slight citrus (mostly lemon), with touches of caramel. Flavor is a nice, bready one, with traces of citrus and hops. Not a particularly powerful IPA (very well balanced, not heavy on the hops), but good none the less.
