2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Originally reviewed: 3/13/09. Pours a translucent brownish orange with a massive white foamy head resting comfortably on top. Retention is stellar. Decent globs of lacing on the glass edge.
Smells very yeasty and bready. Some weird vegetable thing going on in there as well. No pine, no real citrus presence. Different.
The hop bitterness is there, but very subdued. This a much more malty IPA than I am used to. I like the citrus hop kick in my beer, but this is pleasant no-less. Bready warm feel to it. Not too thick, not too watery.
This really wasn’t what I was expecting, a little underwhelming. In a market flooded with this style, why reach for this one?

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Aroma has orange and pine.
Taste has orange, citrus, pine and resin. Bit on the sweet side, which works against the drink here. Shallow bpdy, but a good beer overall.

Pours a nice golden ale with a near solid sheet of fine white foam. Brilliant clarity. Smells like grain, simple grain and some hints of herbal hops - not anything like the current trend in IPA, more english and more oxidized. Flavor doesn’t diverge much from the nose: oxidized malts and bitterness with little depth and complexity. Not impressive. Medium bodied with sharp carb and an off dry finish. This beer is too one dimensional and a little oxidized for my preferences.

12oz bottle from Brewmasters in Wilson. Golden brown hue normal clarity with mostly diminishing white head, virtually no lacing. Sweet white wine aroma. Light citrus hop on the initial taste, same on the finish. Oily texture on the palate. Not sure if I would buy this again.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A solid beer. Most will rate it lower in competition with west coast ipa’s, but as an English IPA I really enjoyed this beer. Solid hops balanced with a clean biscuit malt base. Cool to taste a solid English IPA that isn’t trying to be something it isn’t.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A well balanced Brew. Astringent, hoppy (but not to hoppy), citric, dry. Simple floral aroma with thin head and no lace. An accesible IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear pale yellow with a white head. Aroma of berries. Taste is sweet up front with a light amount of hops. Balanced a bit more towards sweet. Which I like. It may not fit in the style well from a hop head perspective, but very drinkable.

From a 12 oz bottle shared in Avon NC. Pours a hazy gold with an off white head. Grassy hop nose. Flavors of citrus, mostly grapefruit, dominate. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, bitter finish.
