UPDATED: APR 3, 2009 Keelhaul (v. i.) To haul under the keel of a ship, by ropes attached to the yardarms on each side. It was formerly practiced as a punishment in the Dutch and English navies. Keelhauling was a form of corporal punishment that was formerly practiced as a punishment in the Dutch and English navies. It was used as a way to punish members of the crew who were guilty of serious breaches of the ship’s code of conduct. Keelhauling involved tying the hands of a crew member to a rope and hauling him under the keel of the ship. The practice of keelhauling was formally abolished in 1853.
Shared by my roommate. Pours with a small quickly dissipating head. The last pour with some agitation makes the small head sit around much longer. A dark, yet clear, ruby brown color. I would like a better head and a less filtered look. Aroma is lightly bittered, earthy leaves. There is a faint caramel sweetness but mainly just this very clean, earthy, muddy, maltiness. Taste is similar, with a moderate bitterness throughout the flavor. I guess there is more hoppiness to this Scottish ale than a standard example but not so much that I would advertise it as my description. Very earthy and a clean richness at the end. Prefect session beer despite the higher octane. easy drinking with a mice medium body. Just lightly chewy. <BR.22oz bottle, Gordon’s thistle glass.

22oz’r Deep copper body with light soft tan head. Rich roasted malt backbone - some toffee and molasses sweetness. Strong pine from the hops, especially present at finish.

Bottle from Nugget in Davis. This one was a bit hoppier than most Scottish ales I’ve had, and not in a good way. As the temp changed for the beer, it showed multiple personalities on the palate. Not the best beer I’ve had from Full Sail... second to Prodigal Sun (in a bad way).

I got this on tap at the Hood River Tasting Room and Pub. It came in the pint glass a very dark copper color with a foamy off-white head. Very strong nose of roasted malts and ripe fruits that tantalizes. Rich creamy body. Flavor is smoky, with some coffee and pine hops. Very dry bitter finish A very nice Scottish Ale I will have to look for this in bottles.

Bomber from BevMo. Pours a dark copper amber with a multifinger beige head. Aromas of dark roasted malt, darker fruits and pine? Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is not all that sweet. More astringent. It is a bit earthy/dirty with pine notes, perhaps coffee and I think a hint of smoke. Finish is dirty/gritty. And dry.
