Deep amber body under a smallish off white head.
Pleasant, but somewhat subdued, well balanced aroma of caramel and hops.
The flavor follows the aroma precisely.
Well done, but maybe my palate was expecting something with more intensity than this one. Sammy (4070), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Cloudy peach to amber with pretty head. A great complement to the food and very quaffable. Noted caramel, citrus juice, fruit, slight licorice, candy, bittersweet great combination. Wonder how it would be aged.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 21, 2005 2003 - Hazy deep amberish peach colored ale, creamy light tan head. Nice aromas of caramel, pineapple, apricot, and toffee brittle, with lighter floral hop notes upon further warming. Taste was a let down though with tangy orange hop flavors and light tropical fruit tones up front. Layered musty caramel malt plays out and blends late, but just never seems to pull everything together. Lighter side of medium bodied, light carbonation, citric hop finish. Think I held this one too long, but who knew...

Nose is not very outright as it seems to be a little sweet and syrupy. Not much on the hops. There is some sour apple from it tho’. Man, I am a little bummed that this doesn’t have much to it.I have a 1999 that I open just to see if this one is off. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Thick creamy light tan head. Clear rusty ruby color.
Bright orange with some caramel malt aroma.
Sour brown sugary apples. Acidic bright orange.
I didn’t write down much more description. But not having a fresh bottle, I have to guess that the hops in here brought out a citric acidy orange, as it seemed a bit bright to me. Sour-like, but not like a "sour ale". SuIIy (1504), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA

Nose is quite hoppy, with some malty notes mixing in here and there. Taste is alot of hopps for a barley wine, noting wrong with that, malt and sweet sugar mixes in. finishes quite bitter and leaves a film on the palate. Dickinsonbeer (3604), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2005 2004 bomber. Pours a light to medium amber with a nice off white head and some lace. Aroma is initially light hops with some citrus and hints of mint, but then gives way to some sweet crystal malt. Also a bit of an oxidized aroma. Flavor is actually on the light side for a barleywine. Some warming alcohol with lots of fruit undertones. Light crystal malt with a little bitterness in the end, but very mellow. More oxidation in the flavor- tasted a bit stale. Im not impressed. Hooker (450), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
