Bottled: Beautiful orange coloure. Unclear. Huge beige head. Herbal, spicy and with a good alcahol character in the aroma. Flavour is malty and sugary with some hoppy notes. Again there is a subtle alcahol note in the background. Complex and wellmade. Ends with a light bitterness and a pleasant alcaholwarming/burnt. Thanks Bck Dich for trading this fine brew.

2008 vintage. A reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. A nice caramel ,alt, with vinous notes, and nice floral c-hops. In mouth, licorice, sweet malt, good floral c-hops. Nice and smooth, with warming alcohol in finale. A solid barley wine. Bottle from Bottle Barn, tasted August 21, 2009.

2003 vintage Clear orange with a light apricot head. Aromas of stewed fruit and some sourness. Good rich and creamy mouthfeel. Sour fruity flavor up front, with a bitter dry finish, and some alcohol warming. A good barleywine, but not a great barleywine.

Reserve 99...bottled 11.10.98 Pours cloudy copper with no head and some floating sediment. Aroma is malt with an apple cider, hop nose. Flavor is lightly bitter and heavy malt with a dry hoppy finish. Some notes of caramel and a tad roasty. Warm and full-bodied palate that warms the body all the way down.

JW77 with a nice barleywine...thanks John. Pours a nice amber color with a small white head. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and some floral hops make up the aroma. What a great balance between sweet malt and a deft touch of hops. Really a gem.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2008 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Oh boy. After a night of mediocrity, this one hits the spot. Actually, the Full Sail Rip Curl was the only other non-mediocre beer. The aroma is intense. So many things in there. First off, its fruity. Michigan cherries and dark fruits (dates, prunes). Very malty with notes of red wine and port. Also detected: vanilla, alcohol and saltwater taffy. A beautiful beer. Slightly hazy, ruby/copper-colored ale. Large yeast particles are there, but few and far between. The small, fizzy, khaki-colored head diminishes fully and quickly. No lacing. The flavor is complex. Malty/sweet and pungent up front with bursts of port and cherries. Tart and slightly bitter on the backside. Warm alcohol throughout. Full-bodied with an oily/silky mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A short, dry, tart finish. The alcohol is there, but well-disguised. Excellent barley wine!

Bottle @ Dans house. Hazy reddish orange appearance with a tan head. Touch toasty malty, somewhat citrusy, earthy, lightly floral hoppy aroma. Floral, herbal hoppy, citrusy, fairly rich toasty malty flavor. Im a little disappointed.

2004 edition. A very well done barleywine, nicely hopped and malted. Cloudy peach to amber with pretty head. A great complement to the food and very quaffable. Noted caramel, citrus juice, fruit, slight licorice, candy, bittersweet great combination. Wonder how it would be aged.
