A deliciously rich barleywine that has spectacular depth and delicacy of flavor that is deep and robust. Its strong, sweet body is balanced with Centennial and Crystal hops for a pleasant hoppiness and finish. Makes a great cellar beer. Available in 22oz. bottles and draught year round. ABV 9% IBU 91

[2003 bottle] Hazy reddish orange with little head, but a ring of white foam that leaves a milkshake-like coating. Interesting fruity aroma with malt, peach, banana, some butterscotch, pineapple, and dried apple. Unfortunately the nice aroma was followed by a musty and highly bittered flavour that contained some malt reminiscent of an english pale ale with a little papaya and cardboard. Mouthfeel was puckering from the bitter and sourness.

Bottle dated 2004.Pours a somewhat cloudy hazy dark amber color with no head but lots of tiny bubbles, oily on the glass. Nose is not very outright as it seems to be a little sweet and syrupy. Not much on the hops. There is some sour apple from it tho’. Man, I am a little bummed that this doesn’t have much to it.I have a 1999 that I open just to see if this one is off.

Pours a dark hazy amber color. Aromas of fruit, malts, and floral hops. Flavors of dark fruit, a hint of smoke, and nice hops. Lots of alcohol in the finish.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2011 2011 Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), lightly yeasty (dough), with light notes of alcohol and dried tropical fruits. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic, lightly to moderately astringent. Strangely light and watery for its style/size. Not much going on in the nose, but it’s inoffensive. Overall just ok.

2004 bomber from Clark the man, thanks!!! Beautiful clear (hey, why others have had cloudy pour and I had 100% clear!?) coppery amber pour with a modest & quickly diminishnig head. Aroma has hints of PNW hops but (again) not as much I was hoping for. Other components of the aroma are some bubblegum, peppery spices, number of fruits, alcohol and… some kind of thinner. Carbonation is harsh and the body surprisingly thin. Flavor has many things going on with burning alcohol in the front but to be honest I’m not too impressed. Actually there’s something unpleasant in the flavor all the way that bothers me. I don’t know if this is oxidized or something. Should try and find another bottle. I can’t imagine what aging would’ve done to this particular bottle. Harm I guess.

Aroma is a bit light with a sweet roasted scent. Color is a deep amber with very good carbonation and a nice tight head. Taste is big, sweet and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down crisp with a sweet feel. Finish comes in with mild sweet flavor that has only a faint raisin and a very faint roasted taste in it. Then it turns very bitter with with a hop flavor and an almost dry bitterness that lingers in the after taste with a slight alcohol feel. I am not a fan of hoppy, bitter Barley Wines, I like them bold, rich and sweet. This is a decent brew its just a bit light.

Bottle at home Big thanks to Douglas88 for this ... Deep copper ... wee bit sweet barley wine nose with some piney hop ... But the flavour for me is not a barley wine ... little sweet ... lots of hops very bitter ... nearly undrinkable ... appreciate getting to try it but oh no... no balance...

22 oz of the 2008, i feel bad giving this a lower rating but it just didn’t shock me. Bitter finish but over light flavor. Nothing bad about it just nothing exciting.
