2.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Bricks (466) - Delaware, USA - OCT 8, 2011UPDATED: OCT 10, 2011 Smells sweet and malty. It tastes as if it was made with saltwater. Awful bitter for a barely wine. Not really into this one.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 khoffman43 (943) - Bloomington, Minnesota, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle from ’05 (year I graduated high school). Nice barley wine actually, has held up well. Good caramel, dark fruits and some hoppiness. Very solid, would like to try fresh.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 S_Side_Smitty (222) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - APR 26, 2013
Pours cloudy brown with a minimal tan head. Aroma is raisin, molasses, sweet malts, light chocolate, and a little age (2012) - something very rustic about the aroma. Taste is off the charts good - heavy sweet malts, molasses, and carob up front. Then it slowly tranforms into a mellow earthy bitterness. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. My idea of a barley wine!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mnmike (700) - Minnesota, USA - APR 24, 2013
Bomber pour. Malty richness that really warms well. You can actually detect the hops!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Toadvine (60) - Arizona, USA - MAR 18, 2013
22oz bottle, 2012 reserve. Pours an opaque mahogany with a small amount of tan head. Aroma is sweet and boozy, with dark cherry, bread, and a little tobacco. Hops definitely come through in the taste, but it is still pretty balanced. I have nothing bad to say about this ABW.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 rickyleepotts (63) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAR 13, 2013
I have never been impressed with Full Sail, but this has been starring at me on the shelf for a few weeks. They dropped the price, and I realized it was on the 1001 Bottles list. Figured I would get it before it was too late. Glad I did, because this beer has been retired. They no longer brew this. Not sure why... it is awesome! A nice thickness, some light bubbles, and a lovely sweetness leading to a drying sweet finish. This is what a barleywine is all about. I wish ore barleywines tasted like this. Good job, Full Sail! WELL worth the $4.49 I paid for it. Bottoms up, people!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 beernovice39 (2785) - Montana, USA - MAR 5, 2013
On tap. Dark orange/red with a small white head. Scent is spice/sugar/caramel/hops. Taste is caramel/herbs/fruit and hops.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 sfontain (678) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 27, 2013
22 oz bottle, Whole Foods Columbus. Murky copper, luscious frothy white head retains a relatively large ring and leaves tons of lacing down the glass. Aroma has apple cider all over it, and raisin and caramel. Flavor is the same; not much going on here with hops; a fair amount of wild sourness. Possibly overly sweet to get through this whole bottle in one sitting. A rare example of an unbalanced craft beer with too -little- hops. Overall, bland and lacking character, and I can’t see how this one is rated so highly.
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Darkover (1499) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Amber color with a small beige head. Aroma of sweet malts and fruit. Taste is sweet with candy flavors, slightly sour and slight hoppiness. Medium body, slick feel, average carbonation. Tangy finish very drinkable.
