98 vintage. Goodness. This beer was brewed when I got married. That’s perspective. Sherry nose, amazed in the complexity between caramel and wood. Sublime, more impressed at how this beer as stood up, velvet as a fine port, melodic. Visceral. Wood note has crescendoed, and the bourbon seems to have become sweeter and condensed and taken on notes of cherry. Applause all around.

On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver ’12. Pours a dark orange. Grain, fruits, and bourbon on the nose. Lots of bourbon. It’s hot, it’s fruit, and what’s that note... bubble gum! Bizarre. Tasty, but... hmm. Odd.

Pours dark hazy amber with little head. Smell is fruity, dark fruit, bit of alcohol, lighter smells as well. Taste is a bit fruity with alcohol on the end. Bitterness and some malt sweetness, some caramel. Decent carbonation and drinkability. Ok

On tap at the 2003 Toronado Barleywine Festival: Brewed in 1998 and aged five years including a year in a bourbon barrel. Wonderful bourbon aroma. Nice malt backing. Awesome balance. One of the best beers I've ever had. Phenomenal. I'd give this one an '11' for flavor if I could. (Note: This beer took 2nd place in the festival.)
