On tap at the 2003 Toronado Barleywine Festival: Brewed in 1998 and aged five years including a year in a bourbon barrel. Wonderful bourbon aroma. Nice malt backing. Awesome balance. One of the best beers I've ever had. Phenomenal. I'd give this one an '11' for flavor if I could. (Note: This beer took 2nd place in the festival.)

Tap @ Toronado Barley Wine Festival. Dark reddish color with a light brown head. Candy, plums, raisins, alcohol, and sweet. A real delight. I shared a full 11oz glass of this one. This was brewed in 1998 and aged in a bourbon barrel.

98 vintage. Goodness. This beer was brewed when I got married. That’s perspective. Sherry nose, amazed in the complexity between caramel and wood. Sublime, more impressed at how this beer as stood up, velvet as a fine port, melodic. Visceral. Wood note has crescendoed, and the bourbon seems to have become sweeter and condensed and taken on notes of cherry. Applause all around.

1998 vintage on tap at Fredfest. Pours murky copper with a decent beige head anda fruity aroma. There is a delicious fruit, toffee and vanilla flavor that is mellow as can be. There is still some carbonation and a powder dry finish, and a subtle bourbon trail. This complex brew has aged very well.

Aroma – Strong Barleywine aroma with good fruit background.
Appearance – Dark Amber in color, little to no head and clear.
Flavor – A huge strong beer with a great oak flavor from the barrel it aged in for years. Great fruit in the flavor also this was a well designed beer.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – Rich in flavors this was a very well made beer loved the rich oak flavor. Wow it was awesome almost 10 years old and wow it had a punch.

Draft at Fredfest 09, Hair of the Dog. Man, this is an absolute delight. Pours a murky dark almond/light amber with bright toffee-colored highlights in the cotners. Bit of creamy tan swirl on top for a minute, but not for long at all. Big bourbony, boozey, roasty nose. Thick, almost sticky body that manages to hang back just enough to be creamy and delightful. Goes down pretty easy. Bourbon, vanilla, vodka, roasty/toasty malt bitterness on the mid-palate. Long boozy/bourbony finish. This is actually a much more pleasant beer to drink than a recounting of its flavor profile might indicate--looking at it in words makes it sound hot and out of balance, but it’s not. It’s big and forceful, but holds together harmoniously and isn’t rough on you in any way.

Tap @ FredFest... Holy crap!!!! This was a buzz beer right from the gates. Half pours only allowed this to last about a half hour into the fest. Poured clear, golden with an off-white head. Despite being a 1998 vintage, this still had so much heat going. Lots of whiskey flavors, oak and wood tones, creme-brulee, malts, and big time sweetness.

On tap for Hard Liver ’12, pours a murky dark orange with a small beige head. Aroma of bourbon barrels, toffee and caramel, dark dried fruits - the barrels are perfect on the nose. Flavour of vanilla, bourbon barrels, dark dried fruits with a slight sourness, and some toffee. Great mesh of flavours with great execution on the barrels. Excellent.
