COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This tasty copper ale was originally called White Cap brewed in honor of our 15th Anniversary. Everyone liked the beer so much; we decided to release it year-round. To avoid any perceived consumer confusion, we changed the name to Rip Curl to celebrate the ripping winds and whitecaps of the Columbia River Gorge," Itís a thirst quenching easy drinking copper ale that has smooth wave of maltiness that crests to a clean fast finish. Brewed with a blend of specialty Caramel and Pale malt and balanced with East Kent Golding, Challenger & Fuggle hops. Rip Curl will also be available on draught in 1/2 & 1/4 bbls.

Copper color. Fairly bitter. Harsh underlying ale. Fizzy.

7/11/02: Had this as White Cap on tap...The light, tangy/malty aroma and rich amber hue crowned by a creamy crest picqued my interest in this brew immediately. The first sip, however, contained hops...I think...(the flavor came and disappeared faster than a snake-oil salesman)...the malt didnít live up to its aromatic promise either, but did provide some nice body...the lemony tang raced along the sides of the mouth, settling in the back reaches. The only trace of hops was in the medium-dry finish, again accompanied by that citrusy tang. This is a refreshing offering, but fell short of the critical threshold of flavor required to make this a top-flight pale...it has interesting qualities, but is ultimately a near-miss. Re-Rate 8/10/02: Perhaps I got a fresher keg today...Flavors seemed better-balanced this time around--hops still subtle but contributed balance to fruity body, which was again quite full for a ísummerí brew. Finish also had nicer balance of hop-dryness and fruit-tang...íSummerí brews not my favorite style, but this is better than most...Glad I gave this stuff a second chance.

A fine session ale, but I might have prefered a bit more complexity.

The smell and appearance are a little below average, but the taste more than makes up for it. Smooth, sweet, and just a little kick.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2007 Amber bodied with a pearl cap, this celebratory ale does not impress with its slight malt aroma. However, this is an easy to drink beer with a smooth malt flavor. A solid amber, albeit one that does not distinguish itself from the ruck.

Curious, while drinking I noticed a strong coriander-like spiciness and rating it would have guessed that this was an amber take on the belgian wit style. Regardless a tasty brew. Nice malt flavor and texture, with a crisp yeasty character that make this quite enjoyable.

A beautiful looking amber beer, mine had a nice head that lasted for a few minutes, a malty nose but a fairly mild flavor. Highly drinkable, even in quantity
