Medium brown with a big fluffy head, great retention and nice lace. Biscuity malt aromas with hints of dark fruit - black cherries and figs. Dark fruit sweetness pretty much dominates the flavor profile, with some candy sugar and Belgian yeast notes swimming around. Medium body, generous effervescence, slight alcohol warmth, and a pleasant sweetness in the finish.

Nothing much resembling a Dubbel outside of color. No aromatics to speak of and a sweet, nearly cloying palate.

My bottle [660ml] shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & mabel. March 9. Pours a dark amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Quite a mild aroma of caramel malt, fruit and yeast
Flavour of caramel malt, fruit, yeast and some sugary sweetness. Average to medium bodied. Just O.K., pretty mild for a Dubbel.
4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 mrhoppy (649) - Santa Clara, California, USA - APR 22, 2012
For the price this is a damn good dubbel. Most dubbel’s cost $10 or more. Has a cleaner feel than European dubbel’s. Lighter in alcohol and body. Fizzy and no head. Like a Belgium dubbel pale. This is so good it should have it’s own style like west coast dubbel or dubbel pale. Really good. So frickin tasty! So cheap $4.29 So worth it! Sometimes I think Dubbel’s are like Champagne in that unless they are brewed in Europe they shouldn’t be allowed to be called Dubbel’s. Wholesome, malty, well-made brew. Smooth. Very pleasant from start to finish, and through the aftertaste. Toasty, raisiny and nutty. Some sweetness, but not overly sweet. Round yeast flavors and esters. Mild and fitting bitterness level balances things out. Enjoyable and cozy beer.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JDBaker11058 (680) - Maryland, USA - APR 21, 2012
Appearance: dark brown with ruby highlights, fizzy light tan head. Aroma: raisins, licorice, port, lightly toasted malts. Taste: yeasty, with notes of oatmeal raisin cookies, licorice, booze, and some clove. Finish: lightly tingly, with a smooth, malty sweetness and lingering candi sugar. Notes: Not a bad dubbel. The licorice notes were just a tad too strong.

Reddish hue with a small off-white head. A good yeasty aroma. Its the style, but nothing to write home about: bitter-sweet,a tad of toast. not too complex. Middling mouthfeel.
