For the price this is a damn good dubbel. Most dubbel’s cost $10 or more. Has a cleaner feel than European dubbel’s. Lighter in alcohol and body. Fizzy and no head. Like a Belgium dubbel pale. This is so good it should have it’s own style like west coast dubbel or dubbel pale. Really good. So frickin tasty! So cheap $4.29 So worth it! Sometimes I think Dubbel’s are like Champagne in that unless they are brewed in Europe they shouldn’t be allowed to be called Dubbel’s. Wholesome, malty, well-made brew. Smooth. Very pleasant from start to finish, and through the aftertaste. Toasty, raisiny and nutty. Some sweetness, but not overly sweet. Round yeast flavors and esters. Mild and fitting bitterness level balances things out. Enjoyable and cozy beer.

Rich, malty aroma has notes of caramel and brown sugar and just a hint of apple. It pours a clear dark coppery brown with a thick and rather fluffy cream head. Malty flavor has notes of caramel, apple and pear with hints of chocolate and toffee. Smooth, full-bodied texture has a fair amount of fizz and leaves a very satisfying finish.

A fairly fruity aroma. Looks good. This is a very smooth dubbel. Not a lot of spice; just a hint. Pretty tasty.

I’m gonna go a bit against the grain on this one, and say that I really liked this damn thing! Bomber pours a beautiful clear chestnut with ring of offwhite head. Sweet, fairly typical dubbel profile, but much thinner, and flatter than an authentic belgian would be. Raisin, brown sugar, anise, caramel, very pleasing. Good brew, good price.

Sampled on 12/18/2010. This abbey dubbel pours a medium copper amber color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing and nice retention. The aroma is brown sugar, yeast, candi sugar and bready. A medium bodied dubbel. The malts are biscuty, malty and sweet. The hops are herbal. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bomber pours brilliantly clear deep copper with three minute long tan head. The aroma has a modest mix of berry, prunes and apple as well as lesser amounts of syrup covered pineapple and just a sense of yeasty spiciness off in the background. The taste is pretty similar and pulls together a pleasing array of prunes, cherries and apples as well as a slight sense of tannins coming from somewhere. To midway a bit of sugar caramel arrives as well as mild yeasty spice notes. This is an easy drinking brew were the spice and slight drying tannin like note do a good job to give the sweet fruitiness a smidgeon of balance.
