The pour is a clear, effervescent, dark amber color with an average, beige, creamy foam which does leave a thin, lasting layer and some tight, lace rings. The nose is subtle and pleasant with biscuits, toasted caramel, banana esters, baking spices, hints of coffee. The flavor is similar but a bit more rich with more of the sweet caramel coming through, almost molasses-like, still biscuity, lightly roasty, some estery yeast, and more baking spices. The palate is typical dubbel with a very lively carbonation, medium to full body, and a syrupy but chewy mouthfeel. The finish is still mostly sweet but drying just a bit with more roast and biscuit, but still the caramel and Belgian yeast win out. Actually a surprisingly pleasant beer from a brewery in which I have not had anything Belgian. A very pretty head to start and some nice malt richness but not enough balance and a syrupy mouthfeel left me struggling to drink this. Not a bad attempt but not to the level of some better examples.

Poured from a large bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a somewhat-cloudy dark amber color with an average-sized foamy white head with light retention and average cling. The beer featured malt aromas of caramel and spices, along with some fruity and earthy hops, and a bit of yeast. The beer had a sweet malty taste with tones of candy and had a slight bitterness too. It was fairly lively on the palate with modest carbonation and a thin-medium body which had average wetness.

Ruddy amber beer, thin head, sparkling. Big chewy biscuit nose with tinges of floral hop and alcohol. Pleasant. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet, fruity taste. Lively, well-attenuated, and dry. No silly esters. Very well done.

Bomber from Liquor Loft. Copper pour with a tan head that leaves a ring. Aroma is a pleasant mix of caramel, dark fruit, sugar, and bread. Taste is fairly straightforward - mellow doughy yeast and sweet caramel candy malts. Herbal spice in the finish. Nothing bad to say about it - pretty smooth.

22oz bottle: Appearance is a dark brown with slow fading creamy off white head. Aroma is just slightly grainy. Taste is slightly Belgian with notes of spices some orange and Belgian yeast and finishes with some floral hops. Decent but an obvious impostor.

Bottle. Pours a clear/hazy brown with off-white head. Aroma of light dark fruit, faint horse blanket, subtle spiciness, light chocolate with a hint of must. Flavor is much the same with a hint of grape and black pepper. Mourhfeel is medium body with soft, fizzy carbonation. Overall, not a bad brew!

Deep amber with thin off-white crown. Aroma is fruity and yeasty with notes of caramel and bready malt. Taste of caramel, bready malt, yeast and dark fruit. A touch abrasive on the finish.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours an amber color with a white head. The aroma is caramel, dark fruit and some Belgian candi-sugar/brown sugar. The flavor is toffee, dark fruit, alcohol and brown sugar and molasses. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not a great dubbel compared to the traditional Belgian brands, but a nice American version.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 3/2/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, with some fruity notes, spice, brown sugar, and a little yeast
Appearance: Pours a somewhat cloudy orange-amber color with a small head and spotty lacing
Flavor: The taste is fairly sweet as well, with sugary flavors, and some fruit and malt sweetness
Palate: It is medium bodied, drinks pretty smoothly, with a soft carbonation, and just a hint of heat
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty nice Doubel. It is perhaps a bit one dimensional on the sweet side, but the sweetness isn’t cloying. There’s also a slight alcoholic dryness that shows up in the finish. I liked it.
