COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Session Black is short, dark and totally drinkable. The initial tastes are a subtle pairing of caramel and chocolate malt flavors with precise hopping to provide an elegant citrus background to the delicate finish of dark cocoa.

The appearance had a dark brown color, super nice looking one fingered off-white to white foamy head that lasts for a good minute before dieing at a moderate pace, good amount of lacing sticking to the sides. The smell had a nice inviting fruity/sweet malty aroma invading my nose smooth and delicately inviting. The taste had sweet chocolate covered fruit (but mainly banana), its almost as if it tastes like someone took a banana and stuck it in chocolate and then pulled those flavors and added it in this beer - I like it. The same chocolate banana aftertaste leading to the slightly same flavoring and shows a decent dryness in the finish. On the palate, it sat about a medium on the body, well, it says its "session" on the bottle, but I’m not so sure about that, hmmm....carbonation is pretty smooth and good for the Schwarzbier style. Overall, honestly, I like this one probably more for me, but its one of the heavier Schwarzbiers made by an American brewer, still worthy of having again, but I don’t consider this too much of a "sessionable" brew

This far too much like a cereal lager, and not enough of the roast grain bitterness which the style should have. Sweet grains dominate the aroma and taste, almost no bitterness or bite at all. Disappointed...

Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Poured as a dark tanned brown color with a decent layer of foamed head. My nose detects a well balanced hop presence with the toasted malts that have a scent of the Whopper balls candy. The flavor is mild and has a slight sweetness attributed to the toffee brittle like malts. The name fits the beer perfect, and I heard it makes a good black and tan when mixed with the regular Session ale.

Bottle - Dark Brown in colour; with Reddish tinge. Malty; roasty malts, caramel, chocolate, hint of liquorice. Fruity; citrus. Hoppy; slight earthy hops. Sweetish roast malty throughout, leading to some bitterness in the finish. OK. Easy drinking.
