Holy moly its a dark beer for hipsters. Wasn’t impressed. More flavor than the original definetly a little roasted barley carmel flavor going on, but then blah. I don’t get it just not a good brew.

A big fan of the stubbies! Like the lager, this black lager brings out the dark sweet malts its brewed with. Great blend of malt and sweetness and a touch of hops. Definitely a treat. Sampled at the Hood River brewery in July 2009.

Picked this up while in Boulder. Dark red pour. Fairly clear. Some dark and sweet malts. Has tiny hints of sour. Fairly smooth taste. Some roasted dark malts. Finish is slightly chemical and dry but is interesting.

Bottle, thanks to Cavie. Pours a deep, dark brown, translucent, beige head. Aroma is kinda weak, some very light dark roast, faint nut. Flavor of some light dark roast, light malt, slight nut. Mouth feel is light body with high carbonation. Over all, not bad, easy drinking beer.

Stubby bottle bought at the Utah State Store. Pours a dark brown with lots of redness and a medium tan head. The aroma is sweet nutty malts. The flavor is smooth and...well a good session brew: loads of nutty and chocolaty flavors, rich malts and a watery smooth finish. Nice and completely unoffensive.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 28, 2009
UPDATED: APR 24, 2011 Bottle.
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium to dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee, cocoa, cereal), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of chalk.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
The malt character is rather clunky, and the combo of chalk and cocoa are a little off-putting. Drinkable, but not enjoyable.

On tap at the taproom at Harborside McCormimck and Schmick’s in Portland on 6/26/09. Pours a nice dark brown with light tan head. Again, earthy aromas of pine and lavendar, with touch of roasted nuts. Complex lager that is very drinkable. A solid experiment by Full Sail.

11 oz. bottle (stamped, 102409) from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear brown color with a one and a half finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is light roasted malt and herbal hops. Flavor is very lightly sweetened roasted malt and some dark esters. Has a slight lingering roasty finish. Medium body. A decent beer, but I couldn’t drink it all day.
