3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. The pour was a very murky dark brown with some ruby highlights and an average sized (1-2 finger) creamy beige head that was mostly diminishing, leaving behind a very thin layer of residue and a small foamy ring thus producing some good spotty lacing. The aroma was of dark roasted caramel malts, a mild resin hop and a leathery yeast with mild notes of coffee, chocolate, molasses and a bit of black licorice. The taste was decently malty and mildly bitter all the way through with notes of molasses and licorice early on and then having hints of chocolate and coffee at the finish. The flavor lasted an average duration with the mild dark roasty flavor left to linger for just a little while. Mouthfeel was just a shade or two under medium in body with a watery and mildly creamy texture and a prickly carbonation. Overall a nice mellow dark brew, very easy to drink, yet still having that wonderful dark beer flavor. Absolutely a great session beer, hence the name...

Bottle from Caponeís and Blue Dog. Pours clear black; mahogany through direct light. Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, mild red wine grapes, nuts. Tastes nutty, with definite walnut, hazelnut, cacao, and roasty malt notes. Smooth taste. Like a nut brown/black lager hybrid, and very good.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Aroma is very mild Carmel chocolate coffee. Dark brown with tan head. Head diminishes fast but leaves a really nice lacing. Taste is a malty toffee coffee flavor a little bitter. Ok beer but not an every dayer for me.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Full Sail Session Black Lager is a dark session beer that is less satisfying than a soda. Aroma is light caramel. Pour is dark with a tan fluffy head that dissipates quickly to a flat, thin liquid. They mock you on the packaging about only being 11 ounces per bottle, and they are not kidding. It doesnít come close to filling a pint glass. Taste is light malt and caramel, kind of watery and without much carbonation although not unpleasant. I would guess the 5.4% ABV rating is stretching it. Finish is clean with the taste vanishing quickly. Save your money on Session Black Lager -- get yourself a fine tea instead. It will be much more satisfying.

Saw this one at the supermarket today, cheep! What the hey, letís give it a try. I have liked other full sail beers in the past, so I didnít think there was much risk in trying this one on a blind sixer.
Pretty dark but not really black, more like a brown ale in color, clear, head was ok but short lived and thereís not a lot of lacing.
Aroma and taste were nice, not spectacular but enjoyable. Roasty and caramel flavors are foremost, along with a little lager-y yeastiness and a decent bittering from the hops.
Body is fairly light but has some chewy-ness, carbonation is well balanced for the style.
Overall itís not going to make the front page of the NYT for setting the beer world ablaze, but itís certainly quite drinkable, and was well worth the price. A tasty beer doesnít have to set records or blaze new territory to be enjoyable.

Faint aromas of dark cocoa malts. Black appearance with no foam. Smooth bold flavors of roasted chocolate with noticeable hops coming through. Cocoa and toffee undertones with a crisp biscuit and caramel finish. Overall, very nice. Crisp and drinkable with predominate hops.
