Poured from bottle into tasting glass. Great example of the style. Very light sweetness/caramel in the aroma. Appearance is true to style: deep amber with some ruby highlights, quickly disappating foam stand. Good crispness and light roastiness in flavor. Would like to see a little more carbonation, but had a nice, light body. Overall, really enjoyable. Would benefit from just a touch more sweetness in the flavor.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Poured as a dark tanned brown color with a decent layer of foamed head. My nose detects a well balanced hop presence with the toasted malts that have a scent of the Whopper balls candy. The flavor is mild and has a slight sweetness attributed to the toffee brittle like malts. The name fits the beer perfect, and I heard it makes a good black and tan when mixed with the regular Session ale.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - Dark Brown in colour; with Reddish tinge. Malty; roasty malts, caramel, chocolate, hint of liquorice. Fruity; citrus. Hoppy; slight earthy hops. Sweetish roast malty throughout, leading to some bitterness in the finish. OK. Easy drinking.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark ruby/cola colored with a thin ring of off white head. Aroma is roasty with some cocoa notes. Taste follows suit and adds some citrus and bready malt. Mouthfeel is a little too syrupy and under carbonated. Ok.

Decent taste, nice chocolate flavor. The problem was it had no depth and the body was too light.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Surprise AZ TJ’s bottle. Fairly typical aroma of darker, sweet malt with a little bitter chocolate. Pleasant flavor, a little milk chocolate with a hint of sugar. Nice dark lager for a session beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: clear, dark brown with a hint of copper. Poor head. Dominated by grain. Chocolate. Hint of malt or molasses and syrup. Very simple and clean. Off dry. Not sour or bitter. Medium weight and medium to long. Chocolate and malty flavors. Very simple and defined profile.
Lacks complexity and layers. Just full of primary grain flavors.

The first time I saw this I was stoked because I like the lager. This beer does not disappoint. Darker than its twin and totally good for the price.
