3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Hophazard (193) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 28, 2011
Roasted malt with hints of chocolate. Black, opaque pour with tiny bubbly taupe head. Roasted graininess begins, followed by a bittersweet chocolate. Bitterness is moderate. Creamy pour from nitro, but also makes the body seem lighter. Sessionable stout.

creamy brown nitrogen head atop a deep brown body. soft cocoa and milk powder nose. high oily char character but the nitrogen body and delicate malt allow it reach creamy-espresso-crema-mode, rather than astringent-harsh-soy-licorice-mode. robust and creamy, drying across the middle and finishing with soft roasted barley, creamy oat and semi-bitter baker’s chocolate. expertly crafted dry stout.

Tap @ Portland Taproom: Called the "Slaine" stout, but it was on nitro, so I imagine that a dry irish stout on nitro is probably going to be slainte, not slaine. Maybe a word document autocorrect? Who knows. This pours a dark black with a thick tan head and a sheet of brown lacing. The nose is smoky with a sweet chewy roastiness and light acidity. The flavor is thin, but very roasty with plenty of chocolate and black patent. The finish is clean; thin and acidic. Not bad. Very irish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beardface (1497) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - OCT 10, 2009
Tap at the brewery. They didn’t say it was on nitro, but it sure tasted like it. Poured deep black with a small tan head that faded almost immediately. Aroma of roast, chocolate and a lactic note. Flavor was light roast and chocolate, dark malts. Mouthfeel was extremely thin and it finished very dry. Okay, but too thin in the mouth for my personal tastes.

On tap at Full sail in Hood River. Colour... black with a thin tan head. Nose... roasted malt and gentle hops. Palate... nicely dry, yet coating, light hops, roasty malt and a delightfully dry finish. Dead ringer for a dry irish stout. Well done!
