Pigfoot (2222), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 12, 2008 Full Sail Slipknot, 22 fluid ounces of Imperial IPA, Brewmaster’s Reserve 2008.
Into a smallish snifter it goes...fairly opaque orange, with mere shadows reflected behind the glass, slim white head above.
Piney, citric aroma, lemon zest, orange peel, a slice of lime...wet, fresh, and pithy. Nice.
Lovely in the mouth with just enough bracing bitterness to spank the palate, but not too much to keep you from reaching for more. Juicy, highly hopped, but dry at the end. Sits pleasantly in the mouth, and waits for more imbibement to come. More fruit jumps out, some peach, mango, grapefruit tinges, another squeeze of lime. Delicious.
Long lasting flavor, big bitterness, but still smooth and tasty. Beautiful!
joet (1621), Fulton, California, USA Jul 18, 2008 I popped the cap and was instantly impressed. I always (unfairly) knock Full Sail for not using Pacific Northwestern hops when they are a PNW brewery. I don’t know why but this bugs me -- a lot. So here I was bracing myself for a real West Coast style beer with a horribly wrong hop mix. From the first whiff I knew I was wrong. I’m pleasantly surprised and the rest of the beer, appearance, body, bitterness all are good examples of a big West Coast IPA -- on the light side for imperials and thankfully without cloying sweetness or tacky sugary feel. Solidly built. Hits the mark and avoids errors. Well done Full Sail! hapjydeuce (525), Carlsbad, California, USA Jul 15, 2008 On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Medium bodied, subdued bitterness IIPA. Hazy amber color, light head. Medium amount of grapefruit citrus and hay. Well-carbonated and pretty sessionable when served cold. Kind of lackluster, but enjoyabled SuperDave70 (652), Arizona, USA Jun 24, 2008 Medium amber colored pour with a big foamy white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel malt, and pine. Pretty similar flavot, with a sweet maltiness really coming through more than I would like. I would probably rate this higher as an IPA, but it’s pretty weak for an IIPA. Still, not bad overall. Vac (2184), San Diego, California, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle from Bevmo La Jolla. Pours with a golden amber body topped by a thick, quickly disappearing head with good lacing. It’s slightly sweet yet hoppy with grassy and piney notes, as well as some alcohol esters. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch dry. Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 1, 2008 Bottle. Not very good. Pours an amber body with a thin white head. Typical earhty hops and a big character of malt in this one. A little etoh but its hidden for the most part in the mixture. I just didnt care for this.
