Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate, caramel), with notes of bourbon, alcohol, raw wood, vanilla, peanut butter.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, syrupy/creamy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic, lightly to moderately astringent.
Very boozy/burning...seems stronger than it is, which is odd considering the viscosity and sweetness is pretty high. Usually that hides the alcohol, but not so much here. Astringency is rough too, another mark against the mouthfeel. A bit too much bourbon/alcohol and raw wood in the nose for my tastes, but it’s pleasant otherwise. Kind of simple and rough, but if you’ve got a bourbon fetish I could see you liking it well enough.

Jul 2, 2008 Bomber shared by Enniskillen; Nose of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and a molassey note; black with a small, glass-lacing, cinnamon head; flavor is big bourbon, vanilla, light hop bitterness, and chocolate; smells super good but doesn’t quite taste up to the nose.

Jul 2, 2008 Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is heavy bourbon, chocolate, oak, alcohol, light caramel. Taste is heavy bourbon which overshadows the chocolate sweetness, and roastiness of the beer, alcohol show mildly. Too much bourbon.

Jul 1, 2008 bomber shared with sammy and hyde. my bottle from a trade with douglas88. pours black with a nice tan head. light penetrated this one to leave the brew looking only dark brown in the glass. big bouron nose and top of porter notes. sweet vanilla boubon flavours mixed with a very well made porter. chocolate and caramel with some dark fruit. good stuff but a bit rough and bossy. thanks for the bottle doug!

Jun 17, 2008 22 oz bottle, 2008. Some coaxing produces a small tan head atop dark brown. Nose is musty dark roast and fig. Brief creaminess that turns to alcohol with a tang. After the initial blast of bourbon, coffee and dark chocolate emerge. Dry finish with bitter licorice and peanut. Too much barrel overwhelms the base beer.
