4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz Bottle. The pour was a murky dark brown almost black with an average (1-2 finger) medium brown creamy head that had great retention, eventually reducing to a thick puddled film and large collar, which in turn created some really awesome full sheets of lacing.
The aroma was of a roasted dark bread malt, mild resin hops and a bold leathery yeast along with notes of chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, a bit of oak cask and a decent hint of bourbon.
The taste was a roasty and malty with a nice chocolate sweetness from the beginning, slowly progressing with a slight coffee bitterness and a mild woody alcohol finish. The flavor lasted a decently long time following the swallow, with a nice roasty alcohol warming sensation lingering on.
Mouthfeel was quite a few steps beyond medium in body with a oily and slightly dry texture and a soft carbonation.
Overall this brew settled very nicely on the taste buds, allowing for a nice robust mocha coffee taste to take hold, which just left you wanting more while doing a great job of concealing the high ABV...

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle [no doubt from trade but I completely forgot from whom I got this, thanks though!] @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown colored head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, quite strongly bourbon, some vanilla, lightly roasted malts. Taste malts, lightly roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, oak/wood lightly, lightly metallic, moderately bitter initially, nice firm bitterness in the finish. Texture-wise a bit thinner than I had expected and hoped, body is decent, carbonation is average to medium. Hmm decent beer, but not as good as I had hoped it would be.

Bottle from 2012. Pours opaque black, medium creamy brown head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, oak. Flavor is medium sweet, and light bitter, lots of bourbon, even more oak. Some woody astringency. Medium body, high carbonation. One of the woodiest beers i have tasted.

Tastes of prunes and a sundry other dried fruits. Also chocolate and coffee. Good beer. Can’t figure out why it’s a porter instead of a stout.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured from a bomber into a beer can glass on 09.07.14.
A: Chocolate pie, vanilla, and dark fruit. It smells very well balanced.
A: 1/2 finger brown fizzy head which quickly recedes. Midnight black body with no red.
T: Chocolate pie, vanilla, and dark fruit dominate. Oak is subtle.
P: Creamy. A bit bubbly but it feels nice on the tongue.
O: Full Sail does an excellent job with balance. This one continues the trend. Chocolate hits first, then vanilla, with dark fruit on the back end. The alcohol is completely hidden. Granted, the ABV is only 9.5% but I expected to feel it more than I did in the mouth.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was odd. The bourbon seemed to fade, and there were a lot of red wine flavors. Nice hint of vanilla and coffee, plus some alcohol flavors. Not bad, but not what I was expecting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
"falls a little short only because there are so many super barrel aged dark beers on the mrket these days. this was good, but not among the best, and not worth $10 IMO. maybe a little more time in the bottle? the beer aspects from the IP (which i like better than this) are overpowered by the bourbon, and the body is medium to full, but not as smooth as, say, a bourbon county. the aroma was not what i’d hoped. the flavor of bourbon and chocolate nice.
