hopdog (7732) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 11, 2008
22oz bottle. 2005 Vintage. Poured a medium and clear golden / orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of apples, pears, light yeast, caramel, and spices. Spiced caramelized apples. Tastes of dough, fruity, yeast, and light spices. Tastes on the thinner side vs. the aromas. Alcohol content hidden.

22 oz bomber. Thin white head over a bright golden beer. Sweet honeyish aroma, ripe banana, clove, pepper and some orange. Flavour is sweet, some clove and bubble gum esters. Peppery alcohol. Something here isn’t right, body is too sweet, fat greasy malts, slight sourness of rotten fruit. Light bitterness, but it doesn’t matter because it went down the drain anyway.

22-oz bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor. Pours sparkling gold with a small white fizzy head, mostly diminishing, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, straw), average hop (fruit, grass), heavy yeast (dough, earth) with notes of banana and coriander. Medium bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation and a tart finish. Light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness; banana, coriander and tart citrus hop flavor.

Golden pour, small white head. Aroma is very malty, some old orange juice, coriander and yeast. Flavor continues with some overripe oranges, coriander, light caramel and some yeast. Ok.

Bottle at the Funky 6. Pours gold with a moderate, white head. Strong malt aroma with yeast, spice and Belgian sugar. Sweet flavor, malty, with light yeast and fruit. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet with Belgian yeast notes. Good.

Bottle sampled on 2/26/07: Pours a transparent golden bronze with a thin wispy ring of white head. Aroma of sweet, pale toasty Belgian malty biscuity notes with some yeasty esters and a touch of citrus. Body starts fairly full and earthy sweet with some biscuity caramel notes and some tart balance before a drier bittersweet finish.

Almost clear yellow gold in color with a small white head. Initial aroma and flavor is a sweet, sticky saison-style beer, quite good upon first impression. A simple Belgian style beer, lightly sweet, light coriander and sticky honey flavors. Reminds me of a lot of Dutch styled ales, with the increased sweetness, though this one has more of a ESB-type bitterness which is a bit strange. Very drinkable, reminds me of Duvel, with more sweetness from the grains, and a little bit of a malt liquor flavor as well. Alcohol is not covered at all, though at 8.5% it’s not too much of a bother. Much better than the so-called Deschutes Saison.

Bottle @ home. I just found this still on the shelf in Denver. I remember liking it two years ago- lets see how the sucker held up in fluorescent light the last two years. Somewhat cloudy, golden orange appearance with an off white head. Soapy floral, a touch earthy (?), bready, herbal, slight citrusy aroma. Herbal, soapy, floral hoppy, light orange citrusy, bready yeasty flavor. I thought I enjoyed this two years ago but maybe I was just a shithead. This is ok.

Rastacouere (6058) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 18, 2005
Light golden shade, covered by a mostly lasting white creamy head. Pretty well integrated yeastiness for an america beer. Gentle phenols attach themselves to honeyed cereals and banana/mango biscuitiness. A slice of oxidation passes close to ruining it, but the damage is not done yet, the flavors still lively, lifted up by a medium to full body with full carbonation. Not the most attenuated example and tartish in its yeastiness, but its highly drinkable.

Draft. Amber beer with a thin off-white head. Low fruity, yeasty aroma. Lots of fruity apple and some citrus esters with some earthy yeast and sweet bubblegum flavors. medium bodied. Not bad, just doesn’t stand out.
