GarrettB (410), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 1, 2008 My standards are set pretty high for wassail. Put there by mother’s homemade wassail (80 proof I’m sure, and it tasted like Kool-Aid), I’ve found that breweries’ attempts at Wassail leave me wanting...more. Mostly, more of the homemade stuff, the real stuff, brewed in a pot on the stove with the fruit and all. It comes as no surprise that the Full Sail Wassail is also something of a letdown. It’s a brown drink with a thin head, and a flurry of chunky sediment with no other noticeable symptoms in the pour. The aroma is muted and quiet, drifting with a little cranberry, a little chocolate and a little malts, but with little else in its scent. The taste is fine, but really smacks of malts, malts and more malts, with a slight astringency, a mild dose of booze, and a shell of chocolate flavor coating the whole thing. I’m still missing the homemade stuff, but also wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to a lay drinker. It’s simple but to me, very boring. jcwattsrugger (3942), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2008 12oz bottle-pours a big foamy retaining tan head that laces and brownish/orange color. Aroma is dark malt, dark fruit, secondary spicy/citrus hops. Taste is dark malt, dark fruit, secondary spicy-peppery, alcohol, seems to be medium body but also a bit thin. Good carbonation. This is all about the aroma, although the taste is solid winter ale. Thanks to Joe-jwc215/wasatch. joekinty (208), rockledge, Florida, USA Jun 4, 2008 pours a dark ruby color big head that fades quick fruity molasses spices pine hops nice malty flavor clean aftertaste somewhat complex hell it taste good in 90 degree florida sunshine. cant complain for 1.29 a bottle
BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA May 29, 2008 I enjoy this because it is not terribly over spice and it breaks the mononity of the holidays by adding a pinch of hoppiness to a really traditional style. A lot of maltiness in the nose, with some licorice and molasses, and a hint of piney citrus. Luscious mouthfeel, with a large malt background, but a somewhat sharp hop bitterness in every sip. This is really easy to drink. unclemattie (1584), Georgia, USA Apr 27, 2008 Thank to Soonah for this one. 12oz Twist-off bottle. Pours deep red, garnet color. Light tan head. Aroma of a sweet malts, molasses, and some dark fruit. Nice woody hop smell. Flavor is a bold malt character balanced out with a sharp hop bitterness. Slight toasted grain roast flavor as it warms. Big hop pine flavor lingers deep on the palate. Very complex hop flavors. A well rounded seasonal from Full Sail. A very nice surprise. I pleasantly enjoyed this bottle. Thanks again, John! Cheers!
