A decent brew that had too much of a sour aftertaste. But it is a good balance of hops and malts.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2004 Nice and spicy, big-time hops. After a rerate, this is better than I remembered it.

2003 12oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown with a perfect tan head. Very little aroma. You can detect a subtle sherry, dried fruit in there but it is sublte. Medium to full bodied. I think the winter/ christmas seasonals are my favorite style. This one is not bad at all. It has a bit of a dryness that I like. You'll definitely get bit of warming in the belly.

2002-Nice clean amber brew. Aromas of hops and light spice. Nice mouthfeel with malt countering the hops and spice nicely.

Aroma has a slight tang with caramelly malt essence, but decidedly on the light side...Color a pretty dark mahogany with a soft tan head and sticky patch lace---most attractive...Flavor is a smooth blend of sweet roasty malts, clean dry hoppiness and subtle spiciness that punctuates the finish...This is medium-bodied and well-balanced---lively mouthfeel...Overall, this is an all-around quality product. I wish the flavors were a little bit richer, but the balance and basic character are admirable.

Dark brown with yellowish shine. Full brownish head, lasting and lacey. Dark chocolate nose, sweet, fruity too (ripe plums, succade). Taste is very bitter, hops and bitter chocolate. Deep. Very full bodied, much more than expected from 6.5 ABV. Very long lasting aftertaste; bitter chocolate gets streamlined with the malt to a beautiful finish. Canít help but like this beer.

Deep red to brown color. Small white head. Aroma reminded me of my grandmother's cabbage rolls. Flavor started out strongly as grapefruit. That (surprisingly) faded very quickly. Mellowed out incredibly in the middle to a malty sweetnes and finished with only a slight bit of hop flavor. Very unique.

Thanks for Brewbandit for this one. Finally a good winter ale which doesn't kill you on the spices. Very malty with just the right amount of hops.

I love all Full Sail brews, but I was a *bit* disappointed in this one. It smells wonderful, looks great in the bottle, and upon first sip tastes just as great and hoppy as I expected. However, as it sits in my mouth a second it becomes all other Full Sail products---hoppy and clean-finishing. Maybe I'm a bit rusty after being "away" for a while but this one just doesn't do anything for me that the Full Sail Pale didn't do. In other words, pretty packaging and nice dark color but it's just pretty, dark and typical Full Sail.
