Just finished up the 2003 Anchor and moved on to this. Actually I'm going to lower my rating of the Anchor a bit, because at the end, it was too dry, young, bitter and harsh. This one is kind of the same style as Anchor, but more toned down and more balanced. Aroma is more of a sweet malt rather than all spice. Palate might be a little more watery, but is maltier at the same time. Finish is a little spicy, but a little boring. It's easier to drink than the Anchor.

Very malty. A good winter ale. A good english strong with some nice hops for balance. The finish is almost sour compared to being bitter. Worth trying.

Bottle pours deep amber, almost garnet color with a small off white head and some lace. The aroma is quite malty, but with a hop presence. The flavor has got some ESA characteristics, being almost fruity, but also has the ASA hop bite. The palate is OK for the flavor. There is somewhat of a lingering spice thing going on too. Overall, this one is OK for the season.

Dark ruby brown with a thin off white head. A slightly weak malty, nutty, aroma with a hint of fruit. Medium palate with little carbonation. Nice malty, cherry flavor with a bit of pine. Very drinkable, but not very memorable.

Pretty rufous-bronze color, light carbonation, and thin, fading off-white head. Interesting fruity aroma. Smells like cherry cider and cloves. Deep earthy flavor with juniper notes. Alcohol apparent on the palate. Strong and distinct. The bottom line is that I really enjoy sipping on this stuff.

The beer pours a nice dark garnet almost brown witha lovelly thick inch high creamy off white head..that stayed quite some time Nice aroma..chocolaty and spicy tones..though well done. I dunno but this seems to taste better than when I had the rest of the six pack..its flavourful yet smoother and less aggresivesweet malts followed by a creamy chocolaty taste followed by a nice "zap" of hops at the end ..very nice. Nice and smooth and creamy on the palate. Pretty drinkable even for a hot sweaty night

Very dark pour with lighter brown edges. Big head and nice lace. Mostly sweet malts in the aroma, not too big of a nose, slight hops. Roast malts in the flavor, some fruit and finished off with a bit of bittering hops. Not too bad of a ESA.

Poured a nice warm brown color with a whispy tan head. Strong bitter smell. Spicy assault that opens up into a bitter body. Very nice.
