3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark reddish-brown with a tightly knit tan head. Understated aromas, brown sugar and nutmeg. This beer is smooth and malty with holiday spice flavors and a little hop note in the finish. Complex and tasty, but lacking a bit in aroma and, for a Stong Ale, strength.

Pours black, low foam and lacing. Very drinkable and lightly spiced winter ale. Very nice

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle poured a very dark mahogany brown with a layer of tan head at the surface. Aroma has dark roasted malt, light spice, and rich sugary sweetness. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation medium light. Flavor opens with nice malts, light roast, chocolate touches, and mellow hops lending a bit of spice.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Beautiful nutty brown color, clear and has small bubbles coming up from bottom entire time. Aromas of raisin, prune and dark fruit. Roasted smell too, with a creamy light tan head. Leaves a nice lace on glass. Sweetness strikes first, touch of vanilla and I get a hint of citrus zest. Spicy flavors follow with black pepper and a general nuttiness. Finish is a roasted coffee bitterness. Has a nice warming effect and a sort of foamy volume to it. One of the best winter warmers I’ve had so far.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.
Clear deep dark brown with mahogany and burgundy hues - and decent beige head - amazing.
Roasted chestnuts nose, with some pine hops, earth, dark caramel malts, mellow spiciness and rich dark fruit and port wine notes.
Sweetish toffee flavor, medium bitterness, juicy caramel malts and nice hoppy notes with some dates and figs.
Med-full bodied, rich, complex, flavorful, balanced, soft carbonation, alcohol well hidden - One of my favorite beers. Well done.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours midnight red, the head quite big and not going anywhere. There’s a big chestnutty aroma here. This drinks with a full-bodied character, overflowing with cooked sugar, pine bark, and varnish. (#4879, 12/30/2012)

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours clear ruby amber with a medium beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is light caramel, flavor is about the same, lightly sweet, lightly spiced with some zesty bitterness. Meh.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle, appears to be my 50th from Oregon. Nose deep caramel with a little bit of backwoods under the chocolate, light hopping. Imagined lactose? Deep dark ruby-mahogany in the glass with a short but lacing tan head. Taste lightly tart and bitter, low-level sweetness and a mild herbal quality underneath the hard mineral character and diluted caramel. Light-medium body with not much alcohol apparent, a credit for sure, but a touch of mocha slime in the aftertaste. OK.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Half finger of tan head. A nice ruby colored body.
Smell is bread and grain, rich overall.
Taste is hardy. Lots of malt here with balanced bitterness to keep the sweetness at bay. Little eating a loaf of bread.
Thicker body, low carbonation and a stickiness to it.
A hefty beer. Perfect for the cold weather.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Dark reddish brown pour, with an off white head. Malty, fruit, caramel, and some bitter metallic hops in this finish. Pretty dull.
