Poured a nice dark brown color with a thin off-white head. Aroma has lots of caramel and some sweetness. A touch of bread as well. Taste is big and creamy with lots of caramel. Intresting grain flavors with some biscuit. Finish has a touch of alcohol and more caramel. Some chocolate too at the end. Overall very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The Wassail is a very dark brown with tan head when aggressively poured and sticky lacing. At first I thought it might be a bock but itís too thick and roasty for that. Chocolate malt aroma with a hint of alcohol. Medium sweetness out front and a nice balancing dry bitterness. Heavy bodied and cloying, though the hop flush prevent it from bogging down. Wish it was year íround.

(From notes) 2009 edition, had this in California by the end of 2009. Pours a deep brown color with a rocky off white head. Aroma: roasted malt, aromatic fresh hops, hints of caramel. Flavor is toasted, lightly sweet & bitter. Medium bodied. Finishes prickly, with a firm bitterness and hints of roast.

9 jan 2012, bottle. Dark brown with thick rocky head. Burnt chocolate malt with some light grassy hops and prominent alcohol. Med body and a bit fizzy. Pretty decent. Very malty, chocolate that dries the mouth. Not much else but pretty nice.

Bottle at a winter beers tasting at Norma Jean. Reddish brown color with a beige head. Fruity aroma, pretty malty, with a bit of floral honey and jam. Malty flavor with light sweetness at first, some fruitiness, and a bitter hoppy finish, slightly floral. Medium-bodied. Pretty nice.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Beautiful dark copper/brown with a ruby tinge and a light but persistent off-white head. Woody, toasted bread aromas with a very light sour note in the back. A nice creaminess is immediately present followed by delicious flavors of dark brown sugar, dates, light molasses and oaken/nutty woodiness. Almost seems to have some spices present like cinnamon and cardamon. This is tied up with a nice earthy, pine bitterness that keeps all that sweetness in check. Washes out with milk and dark chocolate flavors and a lingering dryness. This is one delicious winter ale!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle poured into a sam adams glass.
Pours a clear dark brownish red with a healthy 1.5 finger tan head. Impressive retention and lacing.
Smell is very malty. Roasted malt and caramel malt dominate with maybe a touch of chocolate. Some hoppy notes are also present.
The taste is more of a balance between malt and hops. Some citrusy hop flavors are apparent along with some chocolate and coffee from the malt. All leading to an assertive bitterness on the finish.
Overall this beer is very close to being excellent. If the maltiness and hoppiness would meld just a little bit more. I would get it regularly, though, if it were available closer to me.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Full Sail Wassail is a wonderfully clear, dark, copper ale that has a dense, bubbly, light khaki head that leaves solid sheets on the glass. It smells fruity and medicinal with hints of cherry and mint. Thereís a grassy whiff to it. Itís thick and fluffy and the finish is kind of like sand paper on your tongue. It tastes hot and bitter. There are notes of orange and wood with the bitterness of furniture polish to shine up the flavor. It certainly has zazzle. This is a very aggressive beer and sometimes it comes off as rude. Itís powerful and untamed.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I really like this beer. It has been taking the number one spot in my seasonal rotation this year. Pours a dark mahogany with a one inch tan head. Nice well carbonated mouthfeel. Good balance of malt and hops with a nice spicy hop finish. I feel this represents the style well. Very drinkable...will be picking this one up as long as it lasts.
