12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with some ruby hints. The aroma is toffee, vanilla, figs, and some warm, brandy notes. The flavor is dark, fruity sweetness, with a mild bitterness balancing nicely. The palate is medium, syrupy, sticky, and acidic. The aftertaste is fairly sour, and fades quickly. Overall, this is an interesting and tasty beer, but the mouthfeel is lacking.

What aroma there is, is just odd and not at all pleasing, so right off the bat this beer is not inviting at all. The taste is true to the aroma; I just found it funky. I guess it’s a roasted malt flavor, but who cares; it’s icky.

12 oz bottle from a six pack. Pours a dark mahogany with a 1/2" off white head. Head retention and lace is almost non existent. Rich malty nose with a hint of hoppiness. Some raisin bread in the aroma as well. Taste starts sweet, with the rich malty flavor the nose promised. Hints of dark fruit in the flavor too. Finishes bitter when the hops finally make themselves known. Full bodied with low carbonation. Nice holiday brew.

Dark, clear, ruby-brown with a resilient, frothy beige head that laces thickly. Aroma of toast, spice, dark fruit, and nuts. Taste is malty and a touch sweet, with a bit of spice and a mild bitterness. Somewhat dry, medium bodied and smoothly carbonated. Very easy to drink and very well balanced; definitely one of Full Sail’s better brews.

Ah the aroma and flavor in this delicious brew! Those that have not tried a ’winter warmer’ just don’t know what they are missing!! Malty sweet but not overbearing. Definitely a great brew to have by the fireside to fight off those wintry chills! Would make for a great pairing with some warm bread pudding!

12 oz bottle from Spirits Toms River. Poured a clear deep red/brown body with a fuller frothy beige head that leaves spotty lace all over my Lagunitas jelly jar. Aroma of light chocolate, hint of English toffee, brown bread, English yeast. Fuller chewy body with a touch of warming that makes this one seem far stronger then the 7% listed on the bottle. Flavor of wet toast, yeast, toasted bread crusts hint of nutts. Okay but I would swear this one is closer to 9%+ from the palate.

Bottle from Sam’s. Pours cola-colored with a slight beige head. Nose of English hops, toasty malts, and mild spice. Solid but unremarkable.

It’s starting to get hard drinking all these IPA’s, Brown Ales, Strong Ales, Scotch Ales, etc. I learned a long time ago that I really only like Stouts and Porters (and to a lesser extent Lagers), so drinking anything different almost always guarantees disappointment for me. This beer is, unfortunately, no exception.
