COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed for the holiday season, Wassail is a delight with it’s warm flavors and festive holiday packaging. It’s a lush, garnet colored winter ale that has a malty full-body and a pleasant hoppy finish. Sure to warm the hearts of malt and hop lovers alike, Wassail is brewed with a 4 types of malts and is hopped with a special blend of imported hops.

Clear mahogany with a fluffy off-white head. The aromas is one of spicy malts along with hops - pretty balanced. Don’t be deceiced though! It has quite a bite for a winter brew (perhaps, it’s the hops I wasn’t expecting). I could taste the higher alcohol in it which I wished they would have done a better job disguising it. When it is all said and done, after the interestingly bitter taste, it leaves a sweet coating on the mouth. I didn’t really like this one.

Dark brown almost black hue..slight head on edges..aroma is rather nondescript was expecting a much more noticed and pleasant nose..but not evident..faint malty nose presence if you try hard..palate and mouthfeel are fairly bland..picking up traces of licorice and anise and a bit of spice..alcohol is decently disguised..generic offering comes to mind..

Bottle. Pours clear ruby amber with a medium beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is light caramel, flavor is about the same, lightly sweet, lightly spiced with some zesty bitterness. Meh.

Pours a dark brown slightly red and leaves the same colored body with a half a finger white foamy head that rises just a tad and quickly dies to a thin coating on the top of the body, lacing is good and lightly speckled here and there, tries to spider web, but is just too clingy; the aroma is malty, fair amount of caramel, little bit of cherry but in a fairly sweet sort of way but coming through in a bland sort of way (I’m not really diggin’ this); the taste is sweet, but a sort of bland malty breadiness, slightly toasty; super malty aftertaste and a dry malty finish; its not as easy on the palate as I thought it would’ve been, but that’s probably due to a fairly high ABV, ok, no worries, overall, for a winter warmer, this to me is only average, however, I think it does the job for its style, unsure if I would go after it again

2006 Bottle: Pours deep ruby hinging on brown with a wonderful bottle condition induced, creamy head. Lots of lacing taboot. The nose shows little hop presence, heavy with caramel and gingerbread malts. Mild esthers and vegetal DMS linger. Full mouthfeel is almost chewy - nice for a moderate ABV beer. Molasses and brown sugar create a really sweet experience, but come off one dimensional in the end. This just doens’t have the depth I’ve come to enjoy from Old Ales.

Pours a dark ruby color into the glass, with a smallish off-white head. Aroma is of caramel malt and hops. Taste is a mix of hoppy earthiness and bitterness, with light sugar and malt. The first time I heard the term "Wassail," it was referring to hot spiced apple cider mixed with spiced rum. 12 oz. beer.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2008 Draught. Mild sweet aroma, strawberry and cherry. Dark ruby with patchy off-white head. Opens sweet and muddled, finishes sour and slightly offensive. Cloying and dry palate.

Bottle. Sweet and spicy nose, some caramel. Dark ruby-brown with a steady head and good lacing. Somewhat chalky with notes of cherries and caramel. Very dry finish, somewhat harsh. Gets more undrinkable with every sip.
