3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OKplus (355) - Oklahoma, USA - APR 30, 2013
A - Pours a very dark brown. A descent light tan head that
S - Dark chocolate, molasses, roasted dark malt, captain crunch cereal, brown sugar, raisins,
T - Roasted malts/dark cocoa come first. The dark cocoa seems to stick on the tongue all the way through. Then brown sugar, woody roasted grain, raisins, faint spice. A candy grape "Now & Later" flavor resides in the background. It sounds weird but it actually provides a subtle tartness. Citrus hops open up and add bitterness at the end.
M - Moderate carbonation. Syrupy yet creamy.
One of my favorite winter warmers. Not a ton of spice in this one which adds to the drinkability. The hops balance out the syrupy sweetness without overtaking it. Highly recommended!

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours a clear brown with a touch of amber and a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has earthy grains and light spice with a hint of grassy hops. Flavor is similar with earthy dark grains and light spice but not much of a hop profile.

Sample from a bottle at Cincinnati Winter Beer Fest (CWBF) 2013. Last one of the night. Kind of rushed this one, a drunk friend had just spilled beer on my notebook and I was writing around the wet spots. Clear brown. Decent khaki head. Spice, toasted malts. Smooth, ligther carbonation. More dry texture. Moderate spice. Solid spice ale. Light bitter. Light sweet.

Pours a reddish brown with a light off white head with light lacing. Smells of spices, dark fruit, pine and grapefruit. Tastes of all the same things in the smell with a good hop presence. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with great carbonation. Overall this is one of the better winter seasonal beers I’ve had this year. Reminds me of a red ale with extra spices.

Sampler at the Dutch last night. Light hazy brown in the glass. Thinner anemic head. Nose of flat weak malt. Body has an off tang of stale hop that lingers in an unpleasant manner. Glad I didn’t pay for this.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle dark blackish red pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, roast malts, some slight biscuit, bread, dark fruits, caramelized sugars, nice spice with clove, slight cinnamon as well, slight earthy and spicy hops as well. Taste is spicy up front with cinnamon, clove, some cherry juice and dark raisin go into dark toffee, caramelizes sugars, dark fruits with a hint of earth, finishing fairly bitter and dry. Pretty nice, like the way this was crafted.
