DrinkMoreBeer (21), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 22, 2006 Bottle. Above average Winter Ale with typically hoppy IPA taste. Must try again and take more notes! (Any excuse for another) mobster07 (18), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 16, 2006 A perennial favorite of mine. The aroma is filled with citrus and piney hops along with a hint of a decent malt backbone. The flavor showcases the citrus/resin/piney hops but also does a great job of sneaking in some caramel and biscuit malt flavors not usually seen in most "west coast" IPAs. A nicely balance yet malty winter IPA. duffman462 (160), Gainesville, Florida, USA Nov 14, 2006 22 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber color with an average head. Aroma of hops and citrus. Seems to lack some key element...flavor is not quite all there. An average winter ale, although I love winter ales...so overall, a good beer. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Oct 1, 2006 Draft. Dark amber color with a frothy tan head. Very faint caramel malt aroma but very hard to find. Light malt flavor with vanilla and a trace of bubblegum. Clean fruity finish. Light flavor but nice.
unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Aug 11, 2006 HAd this beer on tap at the Bier Stein, Eugene. A Great "winter IPA". dark amber, white head. good. jasmine, floral taste. not much aroma. Great, complex bitter finish. Reminds me of Sierra Nevada Celebration. MikeMac (185), Wyandotte, Michigan, USA Jun 16, 2006 22 oz bottle 2004 edition thanks to Styles for sharing. Foured a hazed orangish brown light bubily white head that dissappeared quick. Aromas were extremely hoppy with grass earth and spice . Flavor had a sourness to it that masked the other flavors from really shining through... Would have to re rate soon... SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Mar 12, 2006 22oz bottle from Larry Pitonka 2005 model. Pours a copper color with a thick, white, frothy head. Steady streams of tiny bubbles move upwards. Nose is pure hops. Lots of fresh melon and citrus, some light candied sugars and a bit of sugary malt. Flavors of hops and light sugar. Palate is medium bodied and lightly playful, a sense of bitterness is quick and sharp but disapears. A light stagnant, resin malt is tasted along with some light candied sugars. the nose is awesome...Where is the flavor!?! MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Feb 9, 2006 Sampled at Dickinsonbeer’s NJ January gathering. cloudy copper color, off-white foamy head. hoppy & resiny malt aroma. flavor is a bit watery up front, then caramel malt and hops in the finish. lightly hoppy aftertaste. a winter IPA? nothing stands out here, what’s the point?
