COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Patterson Pumpkin is a deceptively smooth Imperial Pumpkin Ale. This seasonal "feast" begins with a grain menu comprised of 2-Row Pale, Dark Munich, Red Wheat, and Carapils malts joined with Pumpkin in the mash. Sterling, Willamette, and Crystal hops are added to the boil to balance the malt sweetness. Finally, for the delectable pumpkin pie taste and aroma, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and brown sugar are added; creating a rich, full-bodied, Fall drinking experience youíll want to revisit again and again.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange body with a one finger frothy off-white head. Some nice lacing. The nose is a bit heavy handed on the nutmeg and ginger for my tastes, it obscures the pumpkin pretty much. A sweet caramel malt base. If the aroma was heavy handed, then the flavor is even more so. The ginger especially jumps out at me, and I donít really see that as a flavor that I associate all that much with pumpkin beer, or even pumpkin pie for that matter. Very spicy and hot from the ginger and cinnamon, though the heavy sweet malt base does do a bit to temper it. Lingering spic finish. Medium bodied and a bit clingy with firm fizzy carbonation. Donít real dig the spice bill on this one.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark orange color with a small foamy white head. Aroma was serious pumpkin pie notes, brown sugar. Alcohol is noticeable. Flavor was notes of pumpkin gourd, pumpkin pie spices. A touch boozy on the finish.

Pours a nice orange amber color with a bubbly head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is really like a deeply roasted squash or pumpkin with cinnamon and brown sugar in the background. The taste is well balanced with cinnamon and ginger being the dominant flavors. Nice but slightly rough finish. Overall a pretty good pumping beer that utilizes real pumkins!

12oz bottle pours a hazy burnt orange with a ring of lightly soapy, white head. Nose has a fair amount of fall spices, ginger, all spice, cinnamon, brown sugar, some crackery notes, malt, bread crust, some root veg, a little ginger beer. Flavor has a big punchy ginger notes, some peppercorn too, all spice, some hop notes I didnít quite expect, orange and soap, the malt backbone isnít as heavy as I thought. A bit boozy though. Hot, peppery finish. Could probably go a few months in the bottle to mellow.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Hazy golden orange with two fingers of off-white head. Nice webby lacing. Aromas of pumpkin, cinnamon, herbs and spices, brown sugar and vanilla. Tastes of pumpkin, lots of spices, some cinnamon, vegetal notes, bitter notes, some booze. Medium body with a dry finish. Medium carbonation. Smells better than it tastes.

Bottle:   Somewhat of an orange cinnamon stick sorta of spiciness.   Its a little like orange zinger.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Hides the 9% well.   Has a little potpourri in there too.   Could use a little more sweetness on the finsh.   Otherwise its decent.   Pumpkin like spices could be brighter too.   Potpourri finish.
