4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Gasperoo (9) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 30, 2011 does not count
A near-perfect beer. Incredibly full of flavour, bursting with chocolate, coffee and burnt caramel. This is a pioneering brew which Fullers should be proud of, and it has been copied by brewers around the world. A bottle-conditioned craft brew long before such things became fashionable. It is perfectly balanced, with a full dark hop flavour which coats the tongue with rich velvety champagne-like texture. A beer without equal, and for me a desert-island beer which I insist that my corner shop has in stock!

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 alexjucla (20) - - MAY 17, 2011
Excellent, excellent beer. A very difficult beer to dislike, or even find fault with.
Typical english ale malt profile, hops come through a little more, giving a grassy, herbal undertone to a carmel/toffee/spice charactered beer.
The rich copper color is capped by a thick, off-white head.
Aroma is sweet, caramel and spice. There is an interesting sweet aftertaste, that I can only describe as lingering sweet cream.
Serious English character, serious taste, and a serious beer for serious beer drinkers. Not a beer to pass up.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with an eggshell colored head. Aroma is very malty, with darkfruit, caramel, buttery notes, fruit cake and some sweet malts. Flavor is again quite malty, with marmelade, buttery and darkfruit, along with fruit cake, caramel and sweet malts. The body is medium with a slightly dry mouthfeel. Overall a pretty nice English Strong Ale, though not as good as their Golden Pride.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 phaleslu (3182) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - MAY 9, 2011
Sample from a bottle at St. Louis Microfest 2011. Pours a clear brown color with a foamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet and caramel malts, brown sugar, toast, bread, and dry grains. Flavor largely follows suit, with toffee sweetness, cereal, bread, and grassy hops. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, bready mouthfeel. Not bad but I was surprised to see how highly rated this was. 1845 and London Pride let me down a bit, based on how awesome the London Porter is.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Crash (501) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - MAY 2, 2011
This one is from the Peoria, Illinois International Beer Festival. Due to lack of space when drinking, my notes won’t be that great on these beers. Aroma was hard to catch - might have had something to do with the area. The taste was sweet start to finish. There was a alcohol taste for sure but, it wasn’t in your face.
4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 dumontn (423) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - MAY 2, 2011
Pours an orangish-reddish brown with half inch head that disappates quickly but leaves a nice layer of small bubbles on top. Smells of caramel, nuts, and toffee. I can already tell this is going to be a European-style malt bomb. Taste is distinctly nutty, biscuity, caramelly and sweet. I detect the slightest hint of chocolate--delicious. Hops are very mild and earthy. On the palate this brew really shines-- full, creamy body for a 6.3% ale. Mild carbonation and a lightly bitter finish. GREAT brew.
