3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MBison (548) - Southern Highlands, AUSTRALIA - JUL 23, 2009
Bottle (500). Poured hazy burnt ruby with a huge lightly tanned, creamy head which lasted superbly. Aroma was of earthy hops with orange peel, toffee malts, red berries, 5 spice, caramel and hints of fennel. Flavor was a good rustic/earthy hop bitterness with toffee malts, juicy gooseberries, figs, black pepper and a very dry woody finish. Noticeable alcohol content. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation, a dry mouthfeel and a superb length finish. Very well crafted English Strong Ale from Fullers – perfect full-bodied winter warmer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Slokop (100) - Tilburg, NETHERLANDS - JUL 21, 2009
This in The Netherlands not much seen beer has a characteristic smell coming of the small head. Typically English I presume. Smell is hoppy, taste is dry, mouth feel is thin. A long and fine bitter after-taste. Overall it has a bit of a poor palate. With British Pound on an all time low, still very expensive beer though.

Bottle from Waitrose.Attractive reddish-amber colour with a lbeige head. It has a toasty aroma with a hint of caramel, yeasty earthiness and light goldings. Complex flavours develop as the beer warms up.. Good, robust ale...perhaps not as good as when I first had it but still of a standard that Fullers seem to have let drop in recent years in most of their other beers.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 TheGent (467) - , Massachusetts, USA - JUL 4, 2009
So glad i found a bottle of this. A reddish brown coloring was topped by a magnificent head in my glass mug. Lots of sweetness comeing off the smell that reminded me of berries or mellon. malty taste with a bit of yeast and just a kiss of bitterness in the end. a dry finish makes me bring the mug back for another sip every three seconds. If you see this, buy it.

Pours reddish brown with an uneven, pillowy, offwhite head. Head is long lasting with good lacing. Taste is caramel, malty upfront with a superb, long lasting dry finish. Drinkable, subtle, and immaculate.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Capa (1543) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 29, 2009
Pours brick red with a beige head. Looks amazing in the glass. Fruit, sweet malts, some caramel, toasty, some whiskey, oak, and light spicing. Medium, smooth body. Flavor is full of spices, caramel, toasty malts, dark fruits, alcohol, and light roasted malts. Finish is somewhat bitter with alcohol noticeable. Very drinkable even at 6.3%. Fantastic.

Fuller’s 1845 is a pretty clear, reddish brown ale with a dense, yellow elastic head that has great retention and lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet with funky malt and cave-like smells, fresh grain and chocolate. It’s quite full bodied and very smooth with a crisp, dry finish. It has an excellently balanced taste. The flavors are very fused. There’s a touch of roast and a lot of malt that’s not really sweet nor dry. Dried fruit, like prune, is apparent. The aftertaste is slightly bitter with wood resin and juniper. What a classic!
