I first tasted this beer in 1995, or was it 1845? Canít remember but it was long ago. I didnít care much for the aftertaste at the time, coarse hops and very bitter. Jump on several years and the local supermarket has an offer on too good to miss. Bottle conditioned, 6.3%, Fullerís - ticks all he right boxes so I thought Iíd give it another try. Well, what a beer, glorious! Real ale in a bottle. Massive fruit & malt, perfectly balanced, some citrus, yeast & burnt toffee. Thereís something about the aftertaste Iím not liking still but this dissipates slightly the older it gets. Nevertheless, this is an amazing brew by todayís standards and one I canít imagine being without for so long ever again.

500ml bought from Morrisons ; In a goblet . Fruit cake nose , with a little chocolate , roast, and caramel . Deep burnt strawberry colour with a groovy beige head . More fruit cake notes , cherry and breadiness , rich through out . Pretty aromatic too. Very solid as ever.

Tasting at Plonk. Mild sweetness, some toffee and caramel. Somewhat low carbonation - it is English, after all. Iíd like to have more of this and rate it again.

Pours a clear dark amber, with a small, but dense white head. The aromas are caramel, dried fruits, prunes, spices, wood, earthy, and sherry. The taste is very sweet, but the finish is dry. The beer is mildly effervescent, and the body is above medium full.

Malty sweetness and a classic English dry aroma come from this cloudy deep Amber brew. A very typical slight sweet medium bodied taste ending with a nice dry bitter aftertaste. Earthy flavors. For an English brew it's spot on.

Bottle from Waitrose in Whiney. Deep amber colour with a frothy cream head. Not much aroma, but plenty of flavour. Caramel and toast with toffee and stewed fruit. Rich and full flavoured. Great traditional ale.

Bottle @Old Joint Stock. Appearance: deep amber colour with decent beige foam. Aroma: caramel, spices, wood, fruity notes. Taste: lots of malts, caramel, wood, red fruits, spices. Not too sweet. Medium body. This is surely one of the best beers Fullerís has ever made!

Ciezkie.
