I first tasted this beer in 1995, or was it 1845? Can’t remember but it was long ago. I didn’t care much for the aftertaste at the time, coarse hops and very bitter. Jump on several years and the local supermarket has an offer on too good to miss. Bottle conditioned, 6.3%, Fuller’s - ticks all he right boxes so I thought I’d give it another try. Well, what a beer, glorious! Real ale in a bottle. Massive fruit & malt, perfectly balanced, some citrus, yeast & burnt toffee. There’s something about the aftertaste I’m not liking still but this dissipates slightly the older it gets. Nevertheless, this is an amazing brew by today’s standards and one I can’t imagine being without for so long ever again.

Clear dark copper, stable offwhite head. Aroma has malt, toffee, dried fruit and alc. Flavour is similar with boozy/vinous notes. Quite complex and well balanced. Finish is spicy and boozy, a little rough perhaps.

One of my very favourite English ales out of a bottle. Complex, strong, and balanced. Would live to try from cask.

A rich, malty, fruit cake of a beer with complex dark flavours that explore the mouth. Smooth mouthfeel. One for after Christmas dinner. Rated by BrewTom

Smellbis pleasant, resembles citrus. Pours medium dark with little head. Taste is excellent, with medium carbonation and a pleasant, not dry aftertaste.

Aroma: caramelo y cafe. Apariencia: color ambar oscuro, pocas burbujas y poca espuma. Sabor: entre dulce y amargo. Paladar: cuerpo medio textura un poco cremosa con un final un poco amargo. En general: buena pero por el mismo precio se pueden encontrar mejores. Salud!!!

Bottle. One finger thick fast head, some lace. Bit hazy, deep red brown. Dark complex aroma, dark chocolate. Good balance with strong tastes, juicy fruit cake. Excellent!

Malt and cocoa (dark chocolate) aroma. Amber color, beige head, persistent. Great lancework. Sweet at first then long bitter finish.
