Pretty complex beer. Not the best though. Very bitter.

Reddish orange appearance. Flavor is dark fruit, caramel, and cherries. The aroma indicates the same. A slight alcohol and spice taste. I was glad to share this with biermonk and Cheri for her #100 rating. A very nice beer indeed, yes indeed.

Mahogany, fluffy tan head. Nose is raiiny toffee, roasty/dusty malts, dark sugary fruits, a hint of oxidation. Flavor is toffee, rich maltiness. Not quite coffee/cocoa dustiness. Finish is dark fruit, a bit of tingy hop, tobacco.

From a bottle poured a brown/amber color with a small head. Bitter malty flavor with a lingering finish.

Cloudy dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma of fruit, roasted grainy malt, apple tartness. Taste is sweet apple, nut, molasses, toasty bread. Finish is sweet. Thick texture.

Bottle. Dark amber/brown color. Caramel aroma, and caramel flavor. Some chocolates hidden in there, but it was mostly a roasted, caramel flavor as noted previously.

500mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours vibrant dark mahogany. Woodiness jumps out on the nose, with toffee, burnt caramel and English hops. Flavour matches this almost exactly with the woodiness and hops lingering on the palate. Quite decent.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2005 A really nice beer with tantalizing complexity. Subtle hops and very nicely balanced with fruity malt and spice flavors. Despite bottle-conditioning and above average ABV, freshness is crucial with this one. A fresh bottle is exquisite. I’ve had some older bottles that were lackluster.
