COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available bottled (bottle conditioned). Occasionally in cask.
Ingredients: Pale Malt (mix of Pipkin, Maris Otter and Halcyon), crystal and amber malt from Simpsons. Goldings hops.
First brewed in 1995 for the 150th anniversary of the brewery.
Winner of CAMRA Champion Bottle Conditioned Beer of Britain (1998-1999). Described by Roger Protz as ’a rich beer with a fruit cake aroma, spices and nutmeg from malt and hops resulting in a dry, fruity finish’.

poured a nice rich amber with a fluffy lasting head and a lot of lacing. aroma rich choc. like godiva choc. malts, and a hint of butterscotch very nice. flavor malts, nutty, majaal dates don’t know if spelling is correct,sweet spices mouth feel smooth .with some bitterness. a very good beer

Deep tan colour with small but fine beige head. Aroma is malty and fruity with some toffee and nuts. Flavor is, as said in the commercial description, almost fruit cake like.

this is a good beer. not a zippy one but a mature one that rolls around the mouth with dark herbal essence toffee and roll ups and the left overs of the dog that decayed in the corner last year. maybe not all that but still a good beer.

Pours amber with a fizzy dirty white head. Aroma is big rich chewy malts, almost cake like, sweet and juicy. The aroma just makes you want to eat. Flavor is nice smooth and chewy, good malt, a medium sweetness. Possibly some fruits, berries, and nuts. Body is exceptional.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2011 Beautiful clear brown. Aroma is delicious caramelly. Malty caramel taste, with roasted malt. You can really taste the roasted malt in the aftertaste. A super solid English ale.

Think and redish in color. Pours with a nice head. Excellent ful bodied flavour. Sweet and malty. Slight amount of hops.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2011 Bottle. Sweet alcohol, chocolate, fruitcake, dark cherries, spice. Mahogany body, large fluffy off white head. Bitter with sweet notes. Smooth and warming, with a dry finish. An excellent beer, and great enjoyed with rich English food. 9 5 8 4 18 Rerate. Bottle. Pours a reddish mahogany with a large off white head. Aroma is of red fruits, alcohol, rich malt and cherries. Oak and toffee. Pepper, nutmeg and spice. Orange peel, biscuit. Bittersweet. Dry finish. Warming and full bodied. Silky mouthfeel. 9 4 7 4 16
