Thick, creamy, and complex! Dark unpolished bronze color with a tall rocky head. Nose is bready with hints of fruit and spice. Rich mouthfull that let me stroll through the ingredient list. Superb caramel maltiness gives way to soft cookie dough, then the bitter end leaves you with hints of hops and spices. A wonderful experience!

Very interesting beer. More subtle, I think, than the ESB. Where the ESB hits you with it’s full chewy maltiness, the maltiness in this beer is more subdued and you’re actually slammed by the bitterness the first couple of sips. As you get used to the bitterness, you’ll start to notice the sweet maltiness (although this is still more subdued than in the ESB) A little later especially after the beer warms up, you’ll start to notice some toffee notes starting to mix with the maltiness and slightly citric bitterness. I even noticed the occasional slight hint of banana, but I’m not sure if I wasn’t just tasting things.

Generous head of large bubbles, deep red color. Aroma is spicy with noticeable fruit--I placed it as raspberries, but others might disagree. Strong alcohol, sweetness, and bitter finish make this better accompanied by food, but nice complex of flavors (nuts, caramel, fruit) make it enjoyable on its own. Excellent beer.

Amazing amber/brown color. Doughy and spiced. Amazingly full body and bold taste without being bitter.
This would be good for breakfast with its warm spice and bready taste. ;) I'm impressed.

Pours a lovely orange-amber with a generous pocked head and fine webbed lace...Aroma is rich, estery, lightly sweet, a bit like a cream sherry...The flavor is dry, slightly roasty, with well-bittered hoppiness and trace sweetness adding comment. The flavors are layered and have great interplay...Carbonation is suitably light...Body is full; it is quite smooth but with edges that bite a little---great mouthfeel! In sum, this is great drinking...Richness, complexity, harmony, substance---all here in ample measure...First rate!

Quite delicious. Aroma of light hops, caramel malt and biscuit. Poured a clear copper amber color with a thick beige, lasting head. Nice lacing. Caramel malt flavor with biscuit and a light bitter hop aftertaste. Very well balanced and smooth. Mouth coating caramel mouthfeel.

Beautiful ruby-amber colour with a thick & lacey off-white head. Aroma is sweet, treacly, malty & warm. Soft, luscious mouthfeel. Flavour is big and malty to start, leading into dried fruit and spice notes, and a well bittered finish. Fantastic stuff - if it’s this good out of the bottle, I can only imagine how amazing the cask version must be!
