A very rich and smooth beer. I really enjoyed this. All of the flavors are enjoyable and unoffensive. A very well round, drinkable beer. Fullers has yet to let me down.

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2004 Bottle conditioned makes the opening a skill so the bottle does not froth over......pours a light copper color with a pebbley light tan cap. Medium-light effervescence. Aroma is unique...very understated but is predominated by a spicey, smoked oak-fruity aroma. Front is very smooth with a good malt presence punctuated by its smokey-oak nutty sweetness balanced with the piney hops that become more prominent in the finish as the malts drop away and the piney hops become slightly bitter....long lingering metallic after taste. This is a very well put together ale...nicely balanced complexity...care and effort have been taken in the production and ingredients....and it shows.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2004 Be sure to serve this one somewhere between room temperature and fridge temperature. The aroma starts to emerge as the beer warms and the flavour improves as well. A unique ale, quite unlike anything I’ve had before. A beautiful ale with a wild taste - bourbon, fruitiness, syrup and spice. Almost creamy feel as it goes down. A nice bitter aftertaste. Certainly a surprising taste and one that grows on you.

Brown bottle is a good idea. good color. Well hopped. Very drinkable roasted without overt coffee. Some smoke in aftertaste. An example of great bottle conditioning. Nice lace and graininess. Bit of harsh bitterness but still very balanced. Some spicy malt, barelywine notes. A must try.

Bottle 50cl. Amber brown beer with nice head and good lacing. Smell is caramel and malty. Aroma is amasing on roasted, caramel, malty and chocolate, very long and nice flavor, heavy bitterness on the finish that goes well with an agrume hops character. Quite sweet very creamy, a great beer off course, a good experience, very nice specially the dark chocolate note.

Bottle, served at cellar temperature. This is a beautiful transparent amber with a great, thick, long lasting head. There is plenty of cherry in the aroma, some raisin, caramel, yeast. I taste more cherry leading to orange with zest with more complex fruit sweetness, grape with skins and maybe a hint of chocolate. Finishes with plenty of pleasant bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium and wonderful with plenty of animated carbonation on the tongue. Wonderful!

Poured from bottle, this ale has a deep amber color with large offwhite head that lasts quite a while. Excellent lacing all the way down the glass. Aroma of malt with dried apricots and figs. Tastes of malt and dried fruit with a somewhat floral hops taste. Nice dry finish. Full, rich mouthfeel. Bottle conditioning makes the carbonation nearly perfect. The 6.3% ABV doesn’t hurt either!
